Everton Youth Teams Thread

.....it is but it also shows how difficult it is to unearth quality strikers.
It's quite interesting reading Unsy's comments on recent strikers on brought in . Sambou is " A future PL player" and yesterday on the new signing 19 year old attacker Dominic Calvert-Lewin . He's been following his progression since he saw him as a 15 year old when Unsy was also at Sheffield Utd and thanked the Board for backing his judgement on signing the youngster.
It looks like we've specifically targeted these two teenage strikers to fill gaps at u23 level, in the same way as earlier this year Matty Foulds was bought to fill a gap at left CB for the u18s. We've got good strikers for their age but none who look like they're going to challenge for a 1st team squad place in the same way our young midfielders and defenders can.

Calvert-Lewin has been called up to the England U20s to replace someone so it'll be great if he manages to make an appearance alongside Dowell.

He also brings something to Everton which has been sadly lacking when I look at the team sheets of over teams ...... a double-barrelled surname, every team these must have one!

Tom Davies goal:

Nathan Holland is the No 7 for England who features a lot in that clip. Looks to have grown a bit , but more filling out to do. Although for us Holland hasn't progressed the way Davies has , he's always played steadily for England youth. Nothing spectacular but better than some of the excessively skilled , give me the ball and I'll beat 6 men and run down a blind alley and never pass types England usually pick at this level.

Yes, interesting how Holland is preferred over Evans here for England whereas at club level Evans has had more opportunities this year with the U23's.

A bit more from the FA on today's U19 match:

"The home side continued to dominate in the second period and it took a superb save at full-stretch from keeper Justin Bijlow to keep out a 20-yard free-kick from Davies who proved England’s stand-out performer.

As the second half progressed, Bijlow also had to be on his toes to deny Trent Alexander-Arnold and substitute Antony Evans as England’s slick and fluid passing movements had the visitors at full-stretch."

It's partly an age difference in that Evans is still a 2nd year Scholar , which is based on 1st September date , but internationals are based on 1st Jan date. So when Davies, Holland and James Yates were 1st year Scholars they were playing for England u17 , Evans was still at school then and didn't really break into England's set up until late last season. But agree it has been an anomaly with Evans , same too with Dowell who reappeared again for England, and Walsh doesn't even get a look in.

Apparently there was penalties proceeding full-time, for some bizarre reason. FWIW - England won 10-9.

Edit: It was England 9 - 8 Netherlands, and it was conducted for "practice", per The FA.

Really hope I'm wrong on this one, but watching sambou at Bolton the other night, I'm sorry but he did nothing to suggest he'll be a first team player in premier league in the future.
