Everton Youth Teams Thread

Right, didn't know that. Surprises me then, for example we now have Sambou, Calvert-Lewin, Duffus as strikers, along with the likes of Brewster and Broadhead who did so well in U18's last year. This isn't to mention the likes of Henen and Evans who can also play up top. This is the same in almost every position so it will be interesting to see how Unsy goes about sharing game-time around the squad.

Hopefully with the extra games from the jonstones paint trophy and being part of the premier league international competition too there'll be enough games for a bit of rotation. Unsworth has used vastly different teams in some of the games so far.

Yes, you can only think that is the plan. Suppose if we don't progress far in these competitions more of the lads can be loaned out in Jan.

Morgan Feeney starting for England U18's tonight; very much deserved:

I noticed in the team picture that Feeney was clutching a pennant in his hand, I haven't seen the team but wonder if he was captain tonight. Chalobah the Chelsea CB who Feeney played alongside last time out was captain but they've moved him up to u19s.
Tom Davies was captain of the U19s.

Promising the amount of would-be-captains we have in the academy: Davies, Walsh, Ledson, Kenny & Feeney (potentially) all captained their country and/or club side at some point. Must have watched Jags in training and thought 'we can do better than that'.

Ledson not with us anymore.

Confirmed that Morgan Feeney was captain of England u18s, this extract from match report 2-1 over Italy.

"Davide Fratessi’s shot was superbly blocked by England captain Morgan Feeney and striker Gabriele Gori went close before the visitors forced an equaliser on 68 minutes."

Very pleasing for the youngster and his coaches, when he became a 1st year scholar last year he wasn't in the England U17s but the progress he made meant he forced his way into that team later that season and now to Captain your country is very impressive. Doing "superb blocks" is very much part of his game he looks like a true defender, a capable stopper who looks comfortable on the ball without trying to be a ball playing CB. At 17 he's got a long long way to go and it may also depend on him filling out more physically but you feel that under Unsy's guidance he's got a good chance of developing firstly into a top class u23 defender.

We have played some attractive pairings at CB in our u21s/u23 in the past 3 months from Galloway/Holgate ; Connolly/Kenny ( though that may be short term) and the pairing of Matty Foulds/Feeney continued from last year. The next step is to see if the last two can make the spots their own , and at 18 and 17 respectively time is on their side.
