England Under-20s made it two wins from two games this week with an impressive 3-1 win over Germany, and interim head coach Paul Williams admits he could not have asked for more from his team.

Germany opened the scoring in Huddersfield through Philipp Ochs, but Ademola Lookman equalised before Dominic Calvert-Lewin took the game away from the visitors with a strike in each half."

It's impressive that we have a total of 9 youngsters playing for England at 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 levels.

Here you go. Not far off a hat trick with England's first goal.

3 goals now in about 120 mins of u20 football I think. Leads line well, think they have a game on Monday so it will be interesting to see if the more experienced Adam Armstrong gets the nod up front.

....many thanks. From what I've read he's not been a prolific goal scorer but neither was the likes of Graeme Sharp. He does look that type, though, a throw back to the traditional target man CF. There's good size and athleticism about the lad, let's hope he keeps progressing.

It's always hard to judge youngsters, particularly forwards and from recent times we have Chris Long who looked good playing for England u20s/ Brentford and then faded , to judge him against. Plenty for him to do but so far so good, a few months ago he hadn't even won an England cap.

....you're right, the odds are very much stacked against him but he appears to be progressing in the right direction.

to be fair in games he starts he does look to have a pretty good goals record.

Not entirely Everton related but that's 2 resounding wins for England youth teams against Germany in the space of a week. Could the times be a changing?

Yeah you're probably right. U17s won 8-1 against them though. They must be a talented group. Why do they tail off? Just not getting opportunities or is it something else?

who knows, multiple factors id say, it'll be interesting to see if everton can turn our talented crop of youngsters into top level professionals over next few years.

It's hard to put your finger on it but not getting an opportunity in the first team must be high up on the list. Take last weeks under 21 games as an example. Germany beat Russia and, apart from their goalkeeper, pretty much all of their starting 11 was a regular in the Bundesliga (and by regular I mean around 30 games plus) last season, playing for clubs such as Bayern, Monchen, Koln, Wolfsburg, Leverksen & Hoffenheim. The only exception was Serge Gabry who was, of course, at Arsenal. Even he's on loan in Germany this season and playing regularly. Conversely, of our starting 11 against Kazakhstan, only Ward Prowse and Nathan Redmond (in the championship with Norwich) played regularly for their clubs first teams last season.

I'm pretty sure that, with the possible exception of Spain, you will see a similar theme with all the other top footballing nations. I put it down to the fact that most of our best prospects end up at one of the top clubs where opportunities are rare, plus the cash rich premier league is bringing in more and more established overseas players. The other factor is that, in this country, we do have a tendency to push through good young players straight into the full squad. For instance, Alli, Sterling, Rashford and Shaw all still qualify for the under 21s.

True, probably even Spanish U21s play regularly in La Liga other than the ones at the big 2/3. I do see some glimmers of hope though. You've got Eddie Howe and Pochtetino who aren't afraid to bring youngsters through, and Southampton. We don't do too badly either. I'm afraid to say "Kloppo" is putting together a side with an English core too. There's still a very long way to go but I am hopeful. Our U20s and U17s are stronger than the usual groups we produce. Also I think if any good young players come through at City then Pep won't be afraid to throw them in, going on his history with Bayern and Barca.

No mate.....England are very decent at U20 level and lower but its the step up from U21 to senior were the Germans are superior.

Better attitude means that young players kick on whilst English players get too much money too quickly and think they made it. most of the time you hear them or see then on social media pissed as a fart with some bimbo in toe.

its about attitude and English players lacking in that department even with the ones tgat do break through
