Everton Youth Teams Thread

That was an interesting squad selection , presumably because of injuries, 1st team selection, with six defenders starting. Taking it from the blog it looks like we played 4-3-3 with Connolly central mid field with Baningime and Jones either side.

We'd be crazy to sell Walsh at this age. We had DFM / CMF options in abundance 5 months ago then Ledson sold, Williams and Walsh injured, Davies first team squad. What it has allowed is Baningime to get another U23s start . It'll need to be a careful balance as to who goes on loan in next few weeks, half the team need a loan for experience others to probably help them find a new team , but they can't all go though I'm sure many teams are watching and trying for loans. The other side of course is that we have promising youngsters at u18 like Feeney, Baningime, Evans and Hornby eager to play U23s and you gave to admire Unsy's ability to put out a competitive team no matter who has s available - I've lost count of the number of CB pairings he's used, today's Pennington/Browning was another new one.

..I agree. It's tough for them because they just get overtaken in the queue. Just watching Cardiff/Fulham earlier where 16 year old Sessignon scored for Fulham. I fear if it hasn't happened for these lads at Everton by the time they are 20 it'll be really difficult for them to breakthrough.

Yep, I think there's only ever been Osman who made it at Everton past 20 years of age and he had 2 long term loans as well.

It's just the way of football isn't it, your either the next big thing aged 16-19 or your deemed not ready for the big league and have to drop down a few divisions and work your way up.

charsley does look decent for u23s and has a great goal record from midfield but i dont think he even trains regularly with the first team like walsh, dowell etc. cant see him ever making a first team appearance for us.

I think Charsley will go out on loan shortly - maybe league 1 to start with. I feel he has been somewhat overlooked - to me he always seems to influence games very positively and seems to have great attitude.

lol that's a actually very true mate, it is like watching a table football side. I was actually thinking about Charsley yesterday thinking "wouldn't mind something a bit different thrown into the mix".

Not surprised when the manager is saying Davies is the best performer on the pitch. I reckon there's about another 4 who would show up the first team for the gang of lazy under performing beauts they are.
I know that's why it's driving me mad that he hasn't given more of them a chance.

Yeah that's because he's quality! If Everton sell this lad I'll give up.

..he really is quality. I loved it when he was at Yeovil, the fans really took to him and he clearly made a big impression. It's what a potential Premier League player has to do. Saying that, a number of Championship clubs have apparently been keen on a permanent transfer and RK has shown no sign of including him in the first team squad.

Must be falling for Walsh that Davies has been given the nod for the first team, I'm saying that as Koeman isn't going to play Davies and Walsh in the same side. A loan to the championship for the rest of the season would be more beneficial to Walsh at present.

He's injured though, who knows if he hadn't been he may have been included

Don't see why not, this season is pretty much a write off, I'd be blooding a few of these youngsters and I'd have no hesitation playing Walsh & Davies in the same side. I really like Davies but I think Walsh is even better.

With all the yearly January gloom and doom, glad we have some of our teams doing well. I hope we get some more of these lads making the step up to the first team.

Yep I would say Walsh would have been on the bench as well during the crap run where Koeman decided to take more of a punt on giving the younger players a chance.

Last game I watched Walsh was Southampton away for the u23's where he was head and shoulders above everyone else ( including Davies ).

I'll be happy see us get Schneiderlin in and then him, Gueye, Davies and Walsh scrap it out and rotate for the 2 midfield positions and once and for all get rid of ( easier said than done ) Gibson, Cleverley, McCarthy and Barry.

I've left Besic out of the mix as we just ain't sure if he can get a run of games together without breaking down.
