Everton Youth Teams Thread

Not sure I agree with this kind of thing, seems to be an overused statement. Geri for example has oodles of talent but was sold by Barca (no real shame in that) and failed at Seville in part due to his application. Dowell definately didn't dissapoint in his cameos at the end of last season, unfortunatly for him they weren't under the current manager. If he wants to break back into the first team picture he needs to prove that he can fit in to the team where his natural ability won't stand out as much as it does in youth football.
I don't disagree however we are talking about players at very different stages of their respective careers delefeuo has had multiple chances a number of which for whatever reason haven't worked out unai emery reasoned it was due to him having the inability to sacrifice himself for the team.

I don't know all the reasons he failed bad luck was certainly a part of it however I suppose my point is dowell's ability should allow for him to be afforded chances also & he should not be cast aside or let go anytime soon until we have exhausted every avenue of making him a first team player as he clearly has extra quality opening teams up & scoring.

I'm sure the club is doing the upnost to help him mak the break through, however he has to earn it and prove he is worth the risk. We are pushing to eastblish oursleves as genuine top 4 contenders so we can't afford any passengers. I think Dowell did excently at the end of last season when he got the chance, however I'd also say there was no pressure in the game against Norwich. Every game is vital at the moment and we have a real challengin run in so to get a chance this season he needs to show his work ethic is up to the level of other players.

I think with Europa League football next year that is perhaps a more realistic chance for him to really get a chance in the 1st team

Yes europa perfect for him & Walsh if he hasn't made the step up before

Report: Barnsley want Everton's Liam Walsh on a permanent deal

I really hope we don't do this. The lad needs to be given a chance here. Year long loan, yes. Selling him at 19, no way not yet.

"Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom is said to want Everton's Walsh at Oakwell next season.

And it is claimed the 39-year-old is keen to bring Walsh to Oakwell next season, but on a permanent basis.

Huyton-born Walsh has impressed for Everton's Under-23s this campaign, but is yet to make a breakthrough at Goodison Park.

The 19-year-old does, however, have some Football League experience, having scored one goal and made another two during a loan spell at Yeovil last term.

Barnsley retain strong links with Everton, having sold John Stones and Mason Holgate to the Premier League side in recent years.

But it remains to be seen whether or not the Toffees would be willing to sever their ties with Walsh - one of several talented prospects within the club's ranks".

...I did post that there was real interest from Championship clubs in the lad. I also posted that the club might 'reluctantly' agree to let him go if the player wants to leave. There are a number of players ahead of him in the queue and the attraction of regular first team football elsewhere might just be too much of a pull.

Disappointing as it might be, a move could happen.

If I'm him, I'd go. You're right about that possibility. Barnsley would be an ideal choice too, as they have a history of playing on the floor. I just would like to see him actually get a chance in the first team before deciding he won't make here just yet.

Would do a low price if they agree to a decent buyback price

...although he trains with the first team I can't recall him being in a match day squad. I notice he wasn't taken on the recent break to Dubai so I fear his chance of getting a game any time soon is unlikely. Shame, he's a smashing footballer but this is the reality.

Yep. He seems a decent footballer but as soon as Ronny Koeman was given the dosh he went after another midfielder. He's behind at least six other players in there now.

Good luck to him. He'll have a great career elsewhere
