Everton Youth Teams Thread

He ran the game in the home leg of the Man City cup semi final in a way McCarthy never could. I like McCarthy but he is limited on the ball & hides from it cracking player particularly in a team
Who don't covet possession.

Besic time probably gone with us but to suggest he showed nothing is a bit harsh

No he didn't at all. He played well, just like he did in the West Ham or QPR Game, but his passing is limited, and his positioning is poor....hence him always diving in.

I like Lennon and McCarthy and Besic. I really do. But no way they should be blocking our youngsters from being in the first team at this point. They barely play anymore anyway. This makes no sense to me that Liam, Dowell, Kenney, Joe Williams, etc. aren't on the bench for every game. Davies has shown the way. It's possible he's the best of the lot, but we'll never really know if we don't actually give people opportunities that, quite frankly, I think they've earned.

Hellvua lot cheaper too. More dosh for Rom and Ross if needed.

More on the subject here: http://www.[Publication is blacklisted due to spam]/en-gb/2017/03/21/ryan-ledson-wins-prestigious-award-have-everton-made-big-mistake/

Oxford United midfielder Ryan Ledson has been having a fantastic season in League One. That recent form has been rewarded with the winning of the EFL Young Player of the Month award. He follows in the footsteps of players such as Moussa Dembele, Dele Alli and Victor Moses.

Everton fans will not be surprised.

The 19-year-old joined the League One side on a three-year deal in the summer. The teenager himself made the decision to leave the club as he looks to play more regular first-team football.

His progress at Everton had slowed dramatically in his last 12 months.

He was once considered a definite first-team prospect but was overtaken in the pecking order by the likes of Tom Davies.

Now Ledson, who has played just once for the first-team at Everton, in 2014 against Kuban Krasnodar, is finally coming good Everton will surely be wondering if there was an opportunity to have both young talents in their first-team going forward. The England youth international is now looking like a future star again and Everton may have to watch his progress from afar.

Ah, I was under the impression he was let go, but have little basis for that so am probably wrong.
He was still under contract at the time. There was no information given at the time regarding the transfer, no mention of fee or anything. 12 months earlier he was considered one of the rising stars, not just at Everton, but in the country. He was the captain in his age group that won the euros U17s and are one of the favourites for this summers U20 world cup. I find it inconceivable that we would let somebody of that calibre leave without protecting the clubs interests with buy back and/or sell on clauses. Especially if we allowed him to go for free.

I agree. I just find it odd no mention was made of a fee anywhere.

...I've watched Ryan Ledson come through the ranks, I've watched his outstanding leadership skills at club and international levels. For whatever reasons his career and development at Everton stalled. These things happen. Football is about opinion, there comes a point when a decision has to be made about every promising youngsters future at our club. Players have to be very special to come through at a top flight club and we can't continually give contracts to those on the fringes.

It's not often the club gets it wrong. Ledson is doing well, he's a player I like but it's much too soon to say he's one of the ones who got away. I expect there's a sell on clause in the deal but I don't get the clamour saying he still should be here. This is football, this is the reality. Good luck to the lad.

There were rumours around at the time of him getting in with the wrong crowd, going clubbing etc. Even if that were the case and we thought it best for him to move away for a while, you'd expect the club to protect our interests. Especially if we allowed him to go on a free, which is what looks like happened. We would have held all the cards.

Went to my daughters school, nice lad hope he makes it and we have a buy back clause

At the time I think he still had a couple of years left on his contract Eggs. It came out of the blue really, no whispers or rumours beforehand, surprising in itself given he was probably the most high profile kid on the books.

I'm not questioning the decision for him to move. You have to trust the club in that and we do have a lot of excellent competition in his position. My issue is that we should have written in some sell on and/or buy back clause into the contract, especially if it was a free transfer. We may well have done, but neither club have disclosed much detail regarding the transaction so we're all in the dark.

...yep, it's a bit of a mystery why it all appeared to fall apart. All of a sudden he wasn't getting game time and there were no reports of injury. He appears the perfect professional but perhaps he had a falling out. You normally hear rumours but there was nothing re Ledson.

I don't know for sure about a sell on clause but I think we had one with Adam Foreshaw so I expect we also have it with Ledson and the likes. I think a sell on as opposed to buy back is most likely.
