Zaha, don't make me laugh.
No Sissoko so the squad would've regressed with him.
Squad is most definitely better than last season.
The transfer window could've/should've been better but don't make things up. If anything this window has shown that player wise, management wise we have progressed. However, at director level we need a couple of changes so that we don't regress.

I never said our squad isn't better, I debate the increase in our first 11 quality.. I.e Bolasie replacing say Mirallas or whoever it's likely to be he replaces.
http://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/article/...ear-award-for-the-201516-season.-3110929.aspx, Zaha was their player of the year, check the forums, most didn't see Bolasie as one of their most important players, but none deny he has quality when on his game.
We WERE turned down by a championship player
What did I make up?
Only thing I agree with you on, is that the transfer window could of been better and we have (hopefully) a quality manager

Do you really not believe our first 11 has been improved om?

We were supposedly going to offer players 120k plus to play football in the Premier League, players coming out of poorer leagues on less than half the salary we were supposed to be offering. The transfer fees 'not an object'.

We had 2 months to do this.

The idea that this is Roberto Martinez fault is laughable.
Don't you think it would be harder to attract top quality players to a bottom half side rather than a top 6 side?

I think that we possibly tried to be too ambitious too quickly.
It is possible that RK thought his name was enough to attract players to Everton, It seems that he wasn't right.
We know that we wanted to sign players like Witsel and Carvalho that would have raised our profile but they did not want to come. It isn't hard to blame them, no European football and although there has been talk of the bright new future, no real concrete evidence of this.

It was even difficult to sign the players we did because they were all the best players at their clubs and the clubs did not want to sell. It was like drawing teeth. However, these are very good players and certainly make our squad better and our team.

I think Valencia is a decent option as a back up striker and is a better player than some on here realise.
I think we were one player short(possibly Brahimi) of having a very positive window.
But, January is coming and if we can continue to get positive results and finish top six or seven this season it will be easier to sign players next summer.

A definite proposal and plan for a new stadium in a clearly defined timeframe would also help.

His name couldn't even keep players Southampton had at Southampton. Koeman was never going to be a draw to compensate for no CL football and no kings ransom in wages.

Now that the dust is settling on the summer inactivity we can make an overall assessment: it seems clear that we dont have the off-field clout some argued we did - claims which many others placed a lot of faith in.

We are exactly where we are prior to Moshiri's arrival, save for a manager brought in to get discipline back into a squad that rebelled against the last manager.

When you cut to the chase, that ^^^ is what it boils down to.

All Martinez's fault Dave, supposedly.

I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I don't have concerns about our budget or ambition, just that it seems our efforts were misplaced.

It was early on in the summer that it became apparent that we did not have what it takes to attract Witsel, Koulibaly, Carvalho etc, despite being able to offer them very attractive personal terms.

At that stage, the focus should have been on ensuring we had decent cover in areas where it was needed, we did get four in but this was/is not sufficient in my view.

There just seems to have been a period of a few weeks where we were not exactly sure of what we wanted and what was possible, resulting in the mad scramble on TDD. The Enner Valencia signing is proof enough, 8 goals in 51 appearances suggests he is not going to pull up trees at Everton. A panic signing, even on loan, when people were praising the club earlier for avoiding panic signings.

We should have used up both loan options, and explored the possibility of a bigger-name/high profile, perhaps older player not getting game time somewhere, on loan or for a 1-2 year deal. Even with Witsel, I wonder if we could have offered an attractive fee to Zenit to loan him until January? Zenit would have retained control of the situation, Witsel would have had 5 months playing time in the Premier League with no longer-term commitment to us, and we would have gained the benefit of having him in the squad, at least for a while. You can't force players to accept your offer, but I do think we suffered from a collective lack of imagination/creativity of approach, that would have brought us closer to a more positive overall outcome.

On a wider-scale, I don't think it's the lack of European competition that cost us. It's more an issue with the much lower media profile we start off with, and that has been an issue since the 1990's. In a straight fight, Sissoko would more often than not have opted to join Spurs than Everton, regardless of their having CL football. Apart from the London factor, they have managed much more successfully to talk the talk and cultivate a "media darling" profile - they were signing Modric and van der Waart several years ago after all.

The sooner progress towards a new stadium becomes a reality, the better it will be for our profile/image too.

RK may have thought his name could attract better quality or rather the board did,in the same way Klopp was supposed to attract the big name to the pit and whether we like it or not they are a bigger attraction than us,has the squad improved, yes but so has everybody elses,as a club are we in a better position to move forward? That depends on a new stadium in the right place, I feel slightly more confident of that happening under this regime when BK and RE are no longer hanging around like a stale fart, with the exception of Bournemouth we are around 20 years behind the rest of the league it will take time to turn it around but I feel we have a better chance now than before

Depends on the team he fields, doing position for position, we may be a tiny bit stronger, but not much from what I have seen.

Mirallas>Bolasie
Gueye>Barry
Stones>Williams
Stek>Robles? looking good so far

Its not a huge leap forwards though is it?

Well. The squad that 'rebelled' against Martinez has been changed. We have 4 new faces who all fit into a starting lineup.

By the way, if a classroom rebelled against a teacher, or if a workforce rebelled against their boss, they would be considered unfit for the job. Martinez also failed at securing replacements for those who you seem to have rebelled.

Mirallas and Bolasie, and Gueye and Barry have already played together a few times, so they aren't really replacements. I think the four who have come on will help us a lot.
