This deal gives a lot to be optimistic about - Bill, love him or hate him, is a fan and is still the chairman. He understnds the club and wants its best - and can pass tht knowledge, history and passion onto a man who may well be able to, and willing, help the club financially and with his business acumen. What is more, a man with a track record of being interested in football at this level.
The deal with the yanks would have probably left everton as merely an asset from which TV money could be milked in return for the occasional action to appease the fanbase.
On the other hand - financial fair play will stymy and chance of a big outlay and re-building - so we'll have to earn the ability to spend and this will take tim, for which we have to be patient.
Taking time and earning success is way more about what sport should be about than having a massive open chequebook to buy success - and therefore, I'm hugely more happy with this deal than if we'd become the next Chelski or Citteh.
