If someone had said" "look, the loan will be paid back, but it has the benefit - the ONLY benefit really - of aiding a future stadium move if the opportunity arrives" then I'd accept that without hesitation.

But in and of itself that ^^^ is not substantial either. A stadium scheme first has to be put in place and planning permission accepted for it to transform into substance.

To be fair, he pretty much did say that, live on radio, himself.

Amazing how far we've come in one year under Moshiri:

Moshiri hugging Mayor Joe Anderson at Bramley Moore Dock whilst architect Dan Meis on the left behind them looks on says it all.

What a year. Thank you Farhad Moshiri - and this is only the start!

has jim white grown on you at all yet mate on his talksport slot?

Very much so mate.

Think he has grown into it well, and now he covers loads of stuff other than the Top 4, and the next Sky match, which his first few weeks were.

And he talks a lot, about Everton and Moshiri.

i like how he is trying to do the investigative jouranlistic stuff, like helping blackburn try and get some answers off the venkys and such.

he actually does seem to be very respected within the business!

He used to do all that stuff in Scotland in the 1990s before he joined Sky. He was actually a very influential journalist up there, helped cover the Fergus McCann buyout of Celtic when Celtic were close to going bust.

I am quite happy with the direction he seems to be taking us. I like the way he seems to have a plan, the ambition, and access to his cash, and I presume like minded folk he has bumped into during his 30 odd years in a successful career.

What accounting tricks he pulls to improve our finances I couldnt really care less about.

Have we got a shiny new ground all ready? Nope.

Have we got a realistic hope that we might? Yep.

I think it's very low key and unspectacular. We are using existing/traditional revenue sources such as player sales and extra tv revenues to finance our spending and the present stadium saga could have taken place under Kenwright and we'd have all just rolled our eyes and moved on, dismissing it as another barmy pie in the sky flight of fancy.

He could well pull things together. I'm not concluding anything about his time here. I'm merely stating that, to this point, we have seen very little of substance, though many seem to think we've been blessed to have him here and we've made a dramatic leap. We haven't.

To be fair, he pretty much did say that, live on radio, himself.

Yeah, and it's a fair claim. But as said, it isn't a substantial move until it becomes a material reality (a stadium, that is).

Seems that way. And he isnt afraid to call folk out now as well. Grown on me.

Like getting Roms agent on today, out of the blue.

Anyrate, we have a Jim White thread somewhere, dont want to clog the Mosh one up!

Pretty sure a quick search will find some saying he has done nothing, "substantial" now being the test he has to pass seems harsh, but you are correct. Cladding dont count as a stadium move, pretty though it all looks.

It's the first major amount of money spent on Goodison in 23 years. It's 10 years ago since Bill was on tv saying that we would soon fail our safety certificate. Moshiri has very clearly improved the stadium in the short term, made it look halfway respectful, and clearly the long term will be the new stadium announced imminently.

People can dismiss the cladding all they like, the club spent no money on the ground in the last 23 years since the building of the Park End, so the decoration of Goodison is a very good thing he did to improve the stadium image. Nobody is foolish enough to believe its a long term solution but he still deserves credit for it.

Dont call a loan an investment. It's not.

investment
ɪnˈvɛs(t)m(ə)nt/
noun

the action or process of investing money for profit.

loan
ləʊn/
noun

a thing that is borrowed, especially a sum of money that is expected to be paid back.

Semantics that have no relevance to the world of business, nice try though, if a tad desperate

A stakeholder loan is commonplace in business, in this case he can't yet convert it into equity as he only owns half of the club.

All of which conveniently ignores the simple question I asked, which was did he have to do that?

Been a few years out of this game, but doesnt the issuing of bonds equate to debt on the company/Government that issues them, and the folk who buy them are investing in said debt in return for a regular income? Similar but not quite the same for prefs?

Yes . The point I am making is that the commercial reality doesn't often reflect the legal substance . It's an investment for sure. He will get it back and more.
