Surely the entire point of bringing Brands in is to get a much-needed grip on the transfer spending juggernaut.
I presume both he and Silva have been given assurances that there will be resources available, but I don't think any business that has just effectively had a gross outlay of what is it, £239m over two seasons to disimprove, is going to sanction that layout all over again, even if funds were available, and I imagine they are not so to anywhere near that level.
Buy young, buy relatively cheap, and sell high surely will be the method employed from now on. I would expect a lot more of the under-23s to go out on loan and for that to become a consistent, if modest, income stream also.
We can't afford to have clubs like Swansea with no disrespect to them holding us publically over a barrel to such a degree that it became obscene. Brands is known for his knowledge of the South American market in particular, so I'd expect a fair amount of signings from lesser established leagues and countries also. That would seem to fit in well with a coach like Silva.
