100% agree. That's why Im not too fussed about Silva's appointment. Brands will set out the style, formations and footballing philosophies whilst the 1st team, U23 and youth team coaches will be required to coach their players in accordance with the Brands doctrine.

Each coach will be constantly monitored and assessed to ensure that they are doing what is expected of them - no freelancing!

I think there are doubts with a lot of supporters in relation to Silva's defensive coaching (or lack of it) but that will be addressed by Brands as the almighty Dutch overlord of Finch Farm. Maybe that's why Emery, Fonseca et al were never really in the frame as they would never fit into this model.

From what I know, Emery and Fonseca would fit that model.

I mean Emery had Monci at Sevilla and I doubt the French let him sign players.

My take on the ‘different model’ comment is that we’ve appointed Brands as a genuine DOF, that will see him build a back room from youth set up to first team that will remain largely unchanged if we change the manager. The traditional model in this country sees the manager come in with his entire back room team and there’s huge upheaval if you decide to part company with them. I can see us moving to the more continental method of a ‘first team coach’ more than a traditional manager who controls everything on the footballing side.

Yes - this is exactly how I read it.

I think to have that dynamic you need a DoF that's essentially a bigger name than the manager.... Koeman/Walsh was never going to work in that respect.
Brands for all intents and purposes appears to be positioned in the role that we traditionally call manager - whoever comes in as the head coach is going to be someone that gets their teams playing in a style that matches what Brands wants.

Might be completely wrong on this but I don't think our new head coach whether it's Marco Silva or anyone else will have the same sort of "say" in transfer dealings as Koeman did with Walsh.

But was Monchi just a very good scout or did he dictate coaching methods to Emery - I doubt it as I think Emery's ego is too big. Fonseca is a different cat - he likes to play it his way - he's very public about getting his own personal coaching mantra out there in the public domain. So maybe he would have a problem with our Dutch titan bitch-slapping him round the office demanding all centre-half's are required to put in at least 2 Cruyff turns per game.

Now that the dust has settled.

What I enjoyed most this week was not necessarily the changes but the motivation behind them. Last year was a complete shambles as we all know and to see action as a result of that was a joy to behold. Allardyce wasn't good enough so gone, just like that. Walsh ultimately at fault for the transfer failings, gone just like that, even better as he barely got a mention which does indicate the board blamed him.

Giving the ceo to someone 'Everton' puts us in good stead if she steps up and performs. Giving the Russian control of the money, moshiri man no less means that we shouldn't see stupid money being thrown about on dross Now, it will all be accounted for.

Brands being the icing on the cake for me because having an experienced man in charge and someone who specialises in bringing youth through is where I have said many times we need to be focusing. The links to riaola won't sit right with some but potentially the quality of the players brought in could drastically improve as a result.

Just Silva to go now, not my first choice but he is the first choice of moshiri so again a good sign that the decision to bring him in wasn't a reaction one like it seemed back in October but a genuine desire to have him as manager.

My optimism right now has come back, so thank you moshiri, over you you marcel and marco.

I cant see Brands telling the manager how to play, I mean I know thats meant to be the idea, but he wont be telling the manager what tactics to play, thats totally unreasonable.

Is it though? The whole idea of the model is that the DoF sets everything up and brings in (or advises on bringing in) managers, staff, players etc who fit that template

There might be some collaboration, but the DoF is supposed to be the one with final say

One things for sure it will be interesting to see how it pans out. That Onions fella on COYB forum said that Brands likes to get involved in the training sessions himself!!!

That's exactly what he means, similar way to how Chelsea are run, moving away from the manager being incharge of recruitment, you now have a setup where the manager has a sole responsibility to coach the team, with a DOF running player recruitment and development.

Maybe in the future and HOPEFULLY Brands and Silva can have a good relationship, but history tells me that they will fight like mad!

I like the way people are reconciling the fact we are looking at a fairly underwhelming managerial appointment by dressing up Brands as some sort of demi-god, and making out the manager is just there to put the cones out.

I’ll get behind it, but for the life of me don’t know why we don’t throw really big money at a Wenger or an Ancelotti.

That’s potentially not great depending on the dynamic of him and the new manager , there a certainly a lot of managers that wouldn’t have it

Since we seem so set on Silva, and have clearly been in contact with Brands for ages, I’d be amazed if the two haven’t already been in a room together (or bare minimum on the phone for significant discussions) and that Brands has signed off on Silva

Brands is currently the most important person at the club.

I doubt Wenger or Carlo would slum it with us.

Nothing to do with being a demi god. Just stating how the DoF-Head Coach/Manager setup is SUPPOSED to work, and how Brands has done it in his previous roles.
