Since we seem so set on Silva, and have clearly been in contact with Brands for ages, I’d be amazed if the two haven’t already been in a room together (or bare minimum on the phone for significant discussions) and that Brands has signed off on Silva

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

I suspect its been a case of "Look Marcel, we have already picked our manager".

I cant see Brands telling the manager how to play, I mean I know thats meant to be the idea, but he wont be telling the manager what tactics to play, thats totally unreasonable.

Tactics no, but play style and possibly even a general formation,

He will know we - The Paying Public - will want:

Tackling
Passing sometimes long sometimes short
Shooting at the goal

Maybe, but if we’ve been in contact with Brands for 2 years (and clearly in more in depth discussions for at least the last few months, when stories surfaced) I’d be amazed if the potential appointment of Silva wasn’t run by him.

Yes and also in this country, most managers have a say on players, I mean I say most, but theres countless stories of people not being happy about that, Conte at Chelsea the most recent and surprisingly Silva had a moan at Watford according to something I read, which is the only doubt I have concerning him being nailed on.

Whoever the ‘manager’ is should have a say in it, there’s no use the manager desperately wanting a right back and the DOF prioritising a winger for example. Nor is it going to work to its fullest potential if the DOF completely ignores the managers view on the choices available. Therefore the chemistry needs to be right and it needs some consensus.

Yeah for sure, I mean the last 2 years it seems like people have just been wondering around with the company cheque book signing who they want, Koeman wants XXXX, Koeman buys XXXX, Walsh wants XXXX, Walsh buys XXXX, Moshiri wants ............ and so on.

Exactly. They seemed to be fighting against each other and that’s part of the reason we ended up with such an unbalanced mis mash of a squad last season. They both needed shooting for the 3x No.10’s alone ffs.

The same guy who said for months, Sam was staying. He sounds a wind up merchant to me.

Nah - he deffo knows some of the staff at FF. And he passes on what he gets told in good faith - like all things take it at face value. Theres probably loads of talk going around training staff atm.

My advice - sit back crack a few beers, enjoy the world cup and see what unfolds. I think there will be loads of activity with transfers in/out this summer, all very exciting.

I don’t think we’re a million miles behind Arsenal and Liverpool have shown what a good manager can do. They were 8th literally three seasons ago.

He also said that the aim is to be competing with the Premier League elite.

We went out and threw £50m at 2 players in January and Moshiri has already said we’ve got no money worries.

He’s paid Sam £10m for six months work and sacked him. He’s after Silva, who we’re likely going to have to pay £8m for + wages.

He’s also in the process of buying Jon Woods shares to increase his shareholding.

Money is definitely not one of our problems. Getting somebody in who has a clue what they’re doing, aka not Steve Walsh, is going to be the key for us.
I think you're in for a surprise this summer spending-wise.

Brands' words so far have all been about pruning the squad and having as little churn as possible in the next few seasons. He's been tasked with that, so it's not exactly conducive to spending loads of cash to get players through the door. You can forget spending like we've seen for a good while. And that spending was only on the back of huge amounts of player sale cash coming into the club - a manoeuvre we dont have anymore.

One minute our spend will supposedly take 5 years to recover from, previously we’d spent nothing but the TV cash, now it was all off the back of player sales. You’re flip flopping all over the place on this subject.

Brands hasnt said a single word about pruning the squad.

Stop making stuff up about Marcel.

He said the motivation every day is to compete with the elite. We're not going to be doing that without spending, are we?

He hasn't said anything about pruning the squad, but it definitely needs to be pruned.

We've got money to spend, more than most of the league have.

He's been speaking in Holland about that and it was widely circulated earlier in the week. That will be backed up by others who post here who will have linked it. I've been searching and cant find the exact source but he said it. I'd be grateful to others if they unearthed that quote.
