ALL the quotes I've seen from Brands so far seem (to me) to be genuinely positive. I think the quote below was what @davek was refering to.
Only Dave could read that as "I am going to prune the squad"

“The squad still counts 38 men, although 14 players have already been leased. As Director of Football I have to break that ad hoc policy. I have explained to the big boss (Moshiri) how I am used to working. I like to get involved everywhere. From scouting to youth training to what the kits look like.”

“I was raised with the idea: the larger amounts are, the more responsibility that entails. Then you can only make fewer mistakes.”
Thank you very much kev.

So he didn’t make any mention of pruning the squad, that’s cleared that up then ;)
That's a pretty hopeless interpretation of the words of Brands. He's clearly saying the squad is too big at 38, so much so that we have to loan out 14. He also alludes to spending large amounts and that due diligence will be uppermost on his mind when spending big.

He is clearly going to clip the number of the squad and be careful with the cash.

I'm calling this a score draw. I've read it about 5 times and still can't make me mind up what he means.

Sounds a good idea to me.

He says nothing of the sort, he says that the loaning out of players has been ad hoc and without a strategy.

Due diligence should be a pre requisite when spending 10’s of £ms on a player, see last summer for details.

Utter fake this Kev, shame on you.

Yeah, it does to me too. Others however seem to say it wont happen and imply only spending more will get us where we want.

I'm realistic: we have assets in blue jerseys we have to shift out and that will be the war-chest plus a few more million. Hopefully it also means getting Baines, Jagielka and Williams down the road earlier than the last 12 months of their contracts to make room for better and younger players.

We dont have a benefactor here at Everton. That much is clear form the last two seasons. It is not a City or Chelsea situation. We spent what we generated in a once in a generation player trading plus hike in tv revenue. The first part of that is gone. Over. The sooner the likes of @MoutsGoat and @Foot Long Hot Dog understand that the better for them.

It's his last sentence I'm having difficulties with mate. Maybe quoted or worded wrong.
"More responsibility over large amounts" = Everton under him will be spending in a measured and targeted way and not splurging the cash as in previous seasons. Granted you can do that and spend a bit, but the likelihood is that it means a more frugal approach to transfer windows.

You may be right mate. As I have said numerous times, he isnt here by accident, or a sudden realisation that the world should be Blue.

Casting an eye over a certain dock development, and his boss, sustains my faith though..........hope I am a little bit on the right track.

You're having a laugh. It is clearly a conservative approach he's preparing us for.

It it means a smaller squad, with less dead wood and more quality..I'm in.

He's got a plan, something we've been lacking of late.
