There’s no way they’ve decided who they want yet, and if they have only a few men will be privy. Names in the press are just easy links
First in line is Emery, already interviewed before Carlo was in line for the job, didn't want to say no but wanted time away after Arsenal, now is the perfect time for him

My big concern for Emery, is that he was criticised extensively for his really poor English, and that players seemed to struggle understanding what his tactics were.

Good manager, I would like him, but that’s surely a big factor.

The other is.... Villarreal are in the Champions League, and have great future ahead. We err... are Everton and if you like rosey stories and great memories, we’re probably not the best team to join.

As people have said gutted for him. Must have pushed to boat out to the limit to land him. 11 million a year says so.

Only then to have him do one at the first opportunity.

Regardless what people say he has tried his upmost to push this club on. Elite manager, massive funds for players and the stadium.

Everyone has a limit, he must be close to reaching his.

Not the best but he has a point to prove in the Prem after his failed attempt with Arsenal, that could be enough to lure him combined with the challenge, he seems to be the type who actually does relish a challenge and project, he has form of working with a DoF from his time at Sevilla too so it could be a great oppurtunity for him.

He needs to do 3 things imo.

Put Brands in charge of recruiting new coach/players
Sort out dysfunctional board
Get started on new stadium
Hit restart on the U23's and the academy more generally. To be specific, P45 Unsworth and his pals pronto. The fact there is zero throughput of players to the first team in the last two seasons is a large red flag. There is a stench of complacency and comfort about the crew running that side of the club that needs to be 100% rooted out. Until that's addressed - and I suspect misty eyed Bill is a major factor - we are pi$$ing away tens of millions in a futile effort every summer.

The dominance of the charitable side of the club, to the detriment of first team competitiveness as a focus of the boards time, is a concern too. But one job at a time.

I personally couldn’t see him in the running, certainly not this offseason.

I think we’ll be poaching an unemployed manager, or (and I shudder thinking it) someone who may depart following the Euros... Martinez.

I think quite a few teams in Spain have directors of football, I follow it closely and even the second division sides do.

Hes a Good fit, but it’ll take a lot to stop him continuing his project and taking Villarreal back to the Champions League.
