As you say the complacency at the club at that time was part of our downfall. We didn't fight hard enough to keep Kendall. We lacked ambition , go out and buy Lineker by all means but we should have kept Andy Gray as well I am convinced we would have won the double in 86 if we had kept him.
Yeah defo. It’s such a shame, we were sooooo good, could’ve beaten anyone, literally.. now we can’t beat a bloody egg!!

I loved Colin Harvey as a player and he played a huge part in the glory years of the mid eighties.
But it was a huge mistake promoting Harvey to manager. In hindsight he was never manager material and it was a huge risk we were top of the tree at that time.
It was a disaster that time. I understand the focus of people’s ire being directed at them lot for then European ban but as a club, we did not react to it appropriately - we kept most of the players to the end of the 87 season…..but when your loveable neighbours across the park have enjoyed a dynasty over 10-15 years (even Brian Clough said he thought we would dominate with our young team) the club needed committed leadership which HK did not show….he was one of the first out the door and I think he was incredibly lucky to be invited back twice.CH showed a lot more loyalty.

The breakup of that team was premature, but the breakup was led by the manager……I will always thank HK for that three to four year period, but it could have been so much more and in the meantime, the RS maintained their success, Arsenal appointed George Graham, and Utd appointed Ferguson…..the ban from Europe was a bitter pill to swallow which Thatcher helped to administer, but in the face of this, our competitors aspired to strengthen - we felt sorry for ourselves and wilted.
