For the entire fanbase, there are a variety of reasons for why we don’t want Rafael.

But ultimately the big one is, obviously his close ties to that lot over the park. Personally, the “small” is not a huge factor for me, but I know it will be for loads and it’s just instantly going to create a toxic environment, and that’s something I really don’t want.
When the fans are already so down on their luck and feeling so low about the club, this has disaster written all over it.

Ancelotti got a free pass, because of his stature, but fans grew tired of his negative football, Benitez doesn’t have that respect, it won’t be long before the fans are on his back.

Benitez, since winning the Coppa Italia in 2014, had done nothing positive. With a team featuring peak Hamsik, Higuain, Mertens, Insigne, Albiol, he got 3rd and then 5th, failing to reach the Champions League on both attempts.

Went to Newcastle and did a average job, didn’t pull up any trees was just very “meh”, but was loved because he would deflect any blame on himself, and throw a jibe at Ashley… which instantly made him a hero.

Just not the man, if you’re making this appointment, make sure he’s a right fit, right now. When Favre, Galtier, Rangnick etc have been available, just play it safe.

I equate this to having your daughter bringing home a boyfriend were the both of you automatically dislike each other
Then she drops the bombshell they are getting engaged
You can't disown your daughter and have to work out how to make to make amends with your future son in law

He will start here with a lot of scepticism and rightly so, he hasn't achieved much since Napoli.

And then there's the kopite connection, I hope he realizes this won't be another club he just can step into, he will be on a road to redemption coming here. If he realizes that, gets humble and works on that I can live with it. First interview will be really interesting.

I u/s your point mate and not having a go at you.
Just can’t believe atm that the personality and managerial style he has shown over his career will change into what I believe is best for Everton: a young, hungry dynamic guy who tends to play attacking football AND who appreciates the club he is managing.
I will give any incoming manager a bit of time with getting a tune out of these players because for me the squad is such a big issue regarding any debate about style of play. But he is miles removed from what I think we need.
Time will tell, of course, but it is just so rare for these guys to change their default after doing it for so many years.
And I expect him getting the job will make him MORE likely to stick to his ways rather than adapt.
Once in post he will not give a toss about any promises given in interview. It will all be deflection, the players, the crowd, what do you expect we are a small club etc etc etc!!!!

….I’m normally ambivalent to appointments but in this case it’s a definite no from me.

I really don’t care if he’s the best in the business. He once publicly belittled our club so we shouldn’t entertain him now. Zero tolerance, there are plenty of other options.
