Weird/interesting if the issue is actually related to that, considering stadium and club infrastructure is essentially ignored by FFP

Interesting. Even if found to be in breach, on paper it looks better that it’s due to accounting treatment or interpretation of the rules regarding loans, interest and tax. Better that than being accused of just spending £200m too much on crap players, dodgy sponsorship arrangements or hidden payments to managers and staff. A sporting penalty would be ridiculous. Agree a fine and move on.Tax issue on the stadium, according to Joyce
"The charge, which is understood to relate to a tax issue surrounding loans for the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, was levelled against Everton in March after the submission of their accounts for the 2021-22 campaign. Goodison Park officials have been confident they will prove they are compliant."
Hopefully Joyce is right because even if guilty a single technical point is surely not going to lead to a points deduction or anything as draconian as that.Tax issue on the stadium, according to Joyce

Probably one of the most complicated areas of corporate taxDidn't even know you could get taxed on loans
Could be most clubs didn't even know what the charge was and just jumped on it. Also, could've just been the media overplaying it for a news story (there haven't actually been any direct quotes from other clubs regarding this charge). It's hard to understand this tbh.
Why would other clubs think we gained an advantage over a tax issue on the new stadium ?
If Joyce is right surely this is no basis for points deductions/ fines or transfer bans.
Doesn't make sense.
Because they need a last straw to cling to. Desperation. PR for their fans so they can deflect from their own mismanagement. And it's not like the owners of these clubs are "fit and proper" persons...It's hard to understand this tbh.

Suspect a lot of yesterdays guardian article was completely made up. The fact they included Southampton who could have no conceivable claim and won’t have given a moment’s thought to suing us was telling.Could be most clubs didn't even know what the charge was and just jumped on it.
