Financial Fair Play investigation

We have a lot we can use in mitigation.

1. Our recent fugal spending
2. The war in Ukraine destroying our income
3. Erm, Dixie Dean
We've also had the best part of 100m worth of signings in Sigurdsson, Mina and Gbamin written down to zero by persistent injuries / "other" issues. As badly run as we've been we've been hit by a perfect storm of things outside our control over the last few years.

Other clubs have suffered the same issues mate.

Although I struggle to think of another example of a Gbamin at another club.

which rule break would be worse, breaching a finance rule or trying to leave the prem league to join a super league?
Trying to leave the Premier League to join a Super League wasnt actually "illegal".

Until they almost did it.

A statement from the Premier League read: "The six clubs involved in proposals to form a European Super League have today acknowledged once again that their actions were a mistake, and have reconfirmed their commitment to the Premier League and the future of the English game.

"They have wholeheartedly apologised to their fans, fellow clubs, the Premier League and The FA. As a gesture of goodwill, the clubs have collectively agreed to make a contribution of £22m which will go towards the good of the game, including new investment in support for fans, grassroots football and community programmes.

"Furthermore, the clubs have agreed to support rule changes so that any similar actions in the future would lead to a 30 point deduction. Each of the six clubs, in that event, would also be subject to an additional £25m fine. The Premier League and The FA have worked closely together throughout this process and this agreement brings both investigations into the matter to a conclusion."

But your point is valid, trying to leave the League is certainly worse than spending a few bob extra.

No one was planning to leave the prem.
They were planning to leave current euro competitions in favour of a closed shop European competition.
Doing so undermines the whole football pyramid where a team’s domestic success would no longer grant access to a prestigious European competition.

Edit: they were told (I think) that if they continued with plans, they would be kicked out of the prem - which was one of the reasons they backtracked.

Not only a conspiracy against Everton but an international conspiracy no less.

I'm sorry but it's madness to think that there is a plot against Everton.

It is simply that we are much easier to prosecute a case against.

The PL are going for the low hanging fruit.
Exactly that. We made a glaringly obvious error and lacked the panache of the more creative accountants, to even try to cover it up adequately.

The case itself is open and shut. The punishment will only gain proper context if/when other guilty clubs are held to account down the line.

It absolutely was.

The key question for me is whether any breach (if there is a breach) was an incorrect interpretation of the rules or a deliberate attempt to conceal. If it is the former it can not be right that there should be a sporting penalty. If it is the latter then clearly a sporting penalty is more likely. There is a significant difference between what we know about the Man City charges and us. I'm ignoring the sheer number of alleged breaches by Man City but I think that the allegations against them are that there was a deliberate and concerted efforts to mislead the premier league and to hinder any investigation.

Even if the Man City charges were reduced numerically if it is found that they were deliberate and sought to conceal then you would imagine that any punishment would be much more severe for each and every count.

Dave has already shifted from his “ we’ll deffo be relegated on Friday “, to we’ll probably be relegated by the end of the weekend, to “ if not we’ll be relegated by close of play on Monday “

I think he’s starting to see dead people again and a forum
intervention may be required.

Maybe leaving was.

But as the fella above says, they never intended on leaving, just going on holiday for a few months.

Its jsutwhataboutery really Mike.

We broke the rules, we must pay the piper.

The Super League 6 snaked the whole of England and got nada.

City gave themselves 400m and got nada.

Chelsea have done God knows what, got nada, yet.

United are in massive debt.

All these things are indeed all true.

Is it? What is the actual case? Can you lay it out for me because I can't find any precise details anywhere.

yeah they were basically told if they joined the ESL they would be kicked out of the prem

those clubs still signed contracts to join the ESL and have not withdrawn from those contracts, be interesting to see what happens in the future about those contracts
