Mgaga came in for Wilkins who was injured. Joe Jamieson won the ball back after John Jones overhit the corner, he played it forward for the run of Richardson and he dribbled forward before launching a lofting shot into the top corner! 1-0! 35 minutes in and Ian Richardson was struggling with a thigh injury, Vince Bytheway got his chance being introduced to the home supporters. Cheyne was allowed space on the ball on 57 minutes and he played it through for Ray who turned inside the area and got it past Batth who got a hand to it but couldn't stop it, 1-1. Norwich kicked off, Jamieson played it forward to Bytheway who played it inside to Hallett, he knocked it inside the area for Ian Brown who slotted hard and low to make it 2-1! Instant reply from Norwich! Mgaga threw the ball to Hallett and he crossed into the box, Bytheway won the header but it just wide of the post. DF: Vince got his debut and he fit in well, he was part of the second goal and I think he will settle in well here.

Norwich City vs Swindon Town

Fans seemed disappointed with Ferguson after the club announced the signing of 33 year old Euan Henderson who has been a favourite of Ferguson's for many years. Many fans beklieve the player has no place in the Norwich team and when pressed on the signing, Ferguson responded by saying Henderson would be a very useful impact player who could be called upon to change a game. Henderson was unavailable for the Swindon game due to recovering from a recent injury. Barry Sargent was in good form for Swindon and led their attack. Norwich were on top in the first half and Hallett came close to scoring but his shot drifted wide. Second half started with Bytheway coming on for Richardson. A miinute later Bytheway got stuck in on Tonly Sunderland and the referee surprised everyone by showing him a straight red card. Surely it was a booking only. Norwich now reduced to ten men. Kendall took the ball forward on 71 minutes but lost out to Laney, he pumped it forward for Appiah and he played in Sargent but King tackled, the ball ran free and Sargent got there first, he played it back in to Appiah who slotted at the far post to give Swindon the lead. There was no response from Norwich and the sending off really hurt them.

DF: I've had a look back at the challenge and he deserved to go. He went in with two feet from behind and there was no reason to even make that attempt as Sunderland was going going nowhere. I'll speak to Vince about this, I'm not pleased.

Euan Henderson made the bench on the visit to St. Mary's. Jon Foster and Mat Kendall partnered in the middle with Ronaldo Vieira playing behind them. Norwich were defending well but Southampton upped the tempo and after a poor clearance Bennett was allowed to drive one into the top left corner giving Batth no chance. A few minutes later Johnston ran forward unopposed, he played in Richardson on his right and he shot against the post, that was a chance. A minute into the second half, Brown played a great ball from the left towards Richardson and he volleyed against the post, the rebound came back to Richardson and he slid in to equalise for Norwich! Matt Kendall took the free-kick on 48 minutes on the edge of the box, he crossed to the far post and King rose to head in the second for Norwich! The Canaries have turned it around! 63 minutes gone and Euan Henderson made his way to the touchline, he replaced Ian Brown to a warm applause from the away fans. 72 minutes and King played the free-kick to Henderson, he tried to find Richardson but it was cut out and Southampton hit Norwich on the counter attack, Bennett got it forward to Becerra and he equalised for Southampton. It's going to a replay at Carrow Road. Norwich were so close to winning this one but they put in a great effort throughout the 90 minutes. The tie will be decided by replay at Carrow Road in ten days time.

Barnsley vs Norwich City

=Barnsley result.webp

17th place Barnsley took on Norwich City at Oakwell. Norwich were in need of a win to keep their hopes of play-offs alive. Scott Finnie was back in the team and Jon Foster and Matt Kendall played in central midfield. Kendall was talk of a transfer to Huddersfield Town but it appears a bid was turned down for the 31 year old midfielder. Vince Bytheway was suspended for three matches for his sending off against Swindon Town. The first real chance for Norwich came on 36 minutes when Meadowcroft overhit a backpass to the Barnsley keeper and he headed it clear only for Johnston to sprint forward and take a shot but the keeper managed to push the shot away. Mgaga won the header for Norwich on 60 minutes, he played it to Brown and he lashed it forward for Johnston inside the area who saw his shot rebound off the post but went in off the keeper! 1-0! Euan Henderson was brought on for Ian Brown for the last 20 minutes to build his match fitness. Just the one goal separating the two sides and Barnsley came close on a couple of occasions but their shots were just wide. Jamieson took the ball on 90 minutes, Finnie took the ball and played it to McCluskey, he played it back to Finnie who had a shot but it was comfortable for the keeper. Richard Batth played well for Norwich in goal and a good performance defensively saw Norwich take the points.

DF: We need to be more ruthless and a bit more aggressive going forward. Euan looks off the pace at the moment but he is struggling for fitness, he will get better.

The fans have so far been critical of Euan Henderson's performances and believe Ferguson has made a mistake bringing him to the club. Many supporters believe the 33 year old is out of his depth in The Championship and his best days are behind him.
