Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

Poor Coasters are but a footnote now. A greasy stain on the sofa where you dropped your puffin pasty. All because of Ward's grasping mingebag ways. Could have gone all the way and harpooned the very highest of honours but he'd rather sell a star player so he could pay for another chimney cleaning the chancer.

It's like seeing an old girlfriend but she's lost her glass eye and her artificial leg got woodworm so she has to use her emergency peg leg. Still a looker but the magic is gone.

The magic may be gone but she still loves a good fingering at least.

Real Zaragoza vs Barcelona B
10th June 2035

Second place Barcelona B will prove difficult opposition for Real Zaragoza. The one time division champions in 2029/30 have top scorer Jorge Ortega leading the line. Carlos Romero was suspended so Israel Silva partnered Juan in midfield. Two minutes in, Alonso took the ball from the throw-in and crossed into the box, Zubillaga rose highest and headed past the keeper to make it 1-0! Juan played the ball forward, Zubillaga dropped deep to take it, he turned and played in a great ball for Flano who went for the bottom corner but it was saved. Garcia took the ball down the right for Barcelona and Alvarez's attempted tackle allowed him to continue down the wing, he played in Ortega who only had the keeper to beat and he finished it well to equalise. 28 minutes gone, Tounkara found Cruz in the box and his first time shot rocketed into the bottom right corner leaving Martinez with no chance, 2-1 to Barcelona B. Flano was playing well, he was receiving the ball in central positions and running at defenders, his shots were slightly wide but he was giving the supporters something to cheer for. Zaragoza were creating chances but credit to Barcelona B for defending deep and dealing with the pressure. David Arteaga came on for Ioseba Flano with 16 minutes to go. A few minutes remained, Zubillaga took the corner from the right, it fell to Alonso but his shot was blocked and cleared away. The whistle was blown and it's Ferguson's first defeat as Zaragoza manager but they put in a good performance and were unlucky in this encounter.

DF: We came up against one of the league's best today, we put in a good performance and showed good attacking intent. We deserved to get something from it but we take it on the chin and we move on to our play-off match against Sporting Gijon. We are at home first and must do all we can to win the first leg to give us any chance in the second.

Richard Alonso ran forward with the ball on 9 minutes unopposed, he played a cutting ball through for Abadias and he rocked the crossbar. Good effort from Abadias. Flano played it to Abadias on 14 minutes and he ran forward towards goal, he tried the shot on the edge of the box and it went in! 1-0 to Zaragoza! Three minutes later Abadias played a one-two with Flano and curled the ball round the defence into that same corner! 2-0! Abadias is putting Gijon to the sword! Three minutes into the second half, Granda passed forward to Oriol, he took one touch to the right and unleashed an effort that went into the bottom right corner, Gijon get back into the match at the right time. Gijon had their tails up and were getting the ball forward more directly. Flano dropped deeper to support the midfield and defence. Ten minutes were left to play and Igor Martinez kept his side in front when he saved at point blank range from Nico Williams. Manzella took the ball from Martinez on the right and played it forward to Fernandez, he cut in on his left and ran forward passing it to Zubillaga who held the ball up and intelligently turned and played in Abadias and a rifled shot into the top left corner secured the wingers hat trick! 3-1! Gijon come forward after Flanos lost possession, the ball was crossed in but cleared away by Perez. Zubillaga went in strong on Oriol and won the ball back for Zaragoza, he passed wide to Fernandez and he ran forward, Abadias was up in support and he squared it for Abadias to claim his fourth! What a finish into the top left corner! The ten men of Zaragoza putting in an incredible performance. Los Blanquillos pull off a great result in the first leg! An excellent hard working performance from front to back saw them put Gijon to the sword!

DF: That was fantastic to watch, excellent finishing from Abadias, he was quality in front of goal and chose the perfect game to do it in! We can't act like it's job done though. Sunday is going to be very difficult, they will throw everything at us. We need to work hard together as a team and if we do then we have a chance.

Zaragoza were hit with a few injuries in the build-up to this crucial fixture. Ioseba Flano was ruled out with a minor knee injury, Igor Martinez picked up an injury but was named in goal and Juan was suspended for his sending off last time out. It was a chance for 23 year old David Arteaga who was rumoured to be on the lookout for a new club but Ferguson has gave his players a chance to prove themselves. Named amongst the substitutes today was 16 year old Striker Agustin Noya due to the injury to Xavier Alvarado. Richard Alonso was back for Zaragoza and started on the right wing. Moreno took the corner for Gijib but it was headed away and Richard Alonso ran forward with the ball, he ewas tackled on the edge of the box but Abadias picked it up and kept the ball moving, he had a shot at goal and the keeper done well to keep it out. Zaragoza were passing the bakll around nicely in the Gijon half, Silva and Romero exhanged passes before playing it to Alonso on the right and he knocked it on to Manzella, he crossed into the box for Zubillaga but it was cleared away. The score was still 0-0 in this leg at half-time and Zaragoza are 45 minutes away from getting into the final. Alonso came forward on 62 minutes at pace, the Gijon defence cannot handle him, he played in Abadias but his shot was easily saved by the goalkeeper. Chus Abadias was taken off on 68 minutes and on came Agustin Noya to make his debut. What a moment for the young Zaragoza supporter. Israel Silva conceded a free-kick on 77 minutes. Granda tried from 25 yards but it went over the bar. Time was running out for Gijon and it was looking almost certain Zaragoza will be competing in the play-off final. Four minutes later Granda came forward on the ball and Silva committed a late foul, he knew what was coming and Silva received his second yellow card and was off. Gijon just couldn't break down Zaragoza today and it's Los Blanquillos who will be going through to the final against Atletico Pamplona on June 20th. The first leg will be played at La Romareda and the second will be four days later.

DF: I'm pleased with the lads today, despite the sending off as I feel Silva should have controlled himself better. It will be a tough two legs but if we can perform to the standard that we have shown against Gijon, I'd say we are in with a good enough chance.
