Foxtel loses EPL to Optus

That may be the way to go. $5 extra per month to watch it HD on the telly. I've got a 1000gb plan but only use about 150 per month, so shouldn't be any issues with data usage.
And I am only 60 metres from the exchange so get really good speeds too (by Australian standards)
Yes go the fetch mini. Connect it with an Ethernet cable and you should be good to go.
That will be my option if I decide against the satellite option. I'll get 15m Ethernet cable as the router is in my bedroom.

You'll connect to the fetch box by Ethernet cable from your router ( wired connection is the fastest and best).

This is what people are finding reading whirlpool reviews...

Best ways to watch EPL based on reported Bitrate numbers

1. Fetch ~6.6Mbps Full 1080p HD (AppleTV unknown however suggested to be close)
2. Website ~3.75Mpbs 1080p HD, lower bitrate might be noticeable when cast from PC to large TV's
3. Mobiles – HD for Mobile screens via the app

To get anywhere near the qualty of HD we are getting with Foxtel now, only the Fetch option will suffice with the higher bitrate. It will chew up more data of of course for us not not with Optus, but it is the best viewing experience.

The other option I am looking at is the Satellite option. As that is what the pubs and bars will be using, I am guessing that it will be top HD quality as well, but I can't get a definitive answer from the incompetents at Optus just yet.

1, 2 & 3; This is basically what my OPTUS rep told me, but without the accurate figures,
glad to have it confirmed

He did say (as he might) given the poor and variable Internet speeds HD from mobile to TV would be problematic at best.

From my point of view we have a winner and save 30% on the bottom line

The new Optus online web portal is amazing. Far better than that piss-take of an offering that foxtel did with their epl on demand.

I am already an Optus customer so this season is free too!

Yeah, and also the Optus sports 1 channel is up and working with fetchtv... The quality is good!
It's looking positive for the start of the season ( on my connection anyway)

We need to hear you guys that have it running compare it with the Foxtel quality mate. Especially if you had Foxtel HD.

The current game is a "classic" one so its identical to the classic game on Foxtel, but the picture is sharp.

There are other scheduled shows/programs later on so will check them out, but this "classic"game is a lot better than the red button games on Foxtel. Until the actual live games start it's going to be hard to judge fully, but given what I see so far, it's from unwatchable like has been mentioned on other forums. BUT this is very specific to my own cable/line. Like you said, just need 6-8Mb/s to get a good/great stream

Remind me mate, are you using the Fetch Mini box? Ethernet cable or wifi?

Fetch box (last gen)
Ethernet cable via a poor/flakey EOP device (Max just over 8Mbps)
But a rock solid cable link 30Mbps/2Mbps

So even though I have a good cable my internal network is a bottleneck and keeping the speed limited BUT I have no quality issues watching ESPN live sports or Netflix on fetch, all which stream at HD.

The Fetch IP channels start off a bit flakey/pixilated, but after 2-10 seconds the stream buffers and I would think the QOS kicks in on the Optus network and the picture becomes sharp and solid

I think for me, unless the Satellite option proves to be a superior HD quality from the reviews I am awaiting on whirpool, I will go the Fetch Mini box and Ethernet Cable option.

I have a solid Telstra cable connection normally 110Mps/2.3Mbps daily. I'll run a 15m Ethernet Cable to the main TV, and a 3m Ethernet Cable to the bedroom TV where the modem is I think.

If you go the mini, can't you at least try the wifi option first? it should be more than fast enough to stream, and worst case you could tune the wifi on the router to use an unoccupied channel?!?
Given your current link i can see why you'd be a bit hesitant cutting over!!

I currently have a Powerline adaptor, so am theoretically already faster than wifi going through the house's electrical circuit. I am sure that will be fine, but I want the fastest. :)

I signed up for the $30 phone plan today so have started using the optus app. So far so good, quality is fine over the wifi. Probably the same as watching Everton tv. Fetch box arrives in a couple of days so will see how it looks on the tv.

Live matches will obviously be the big test
