2021/22 Frank Lampard

I hold no special loyalty to Lampard other than he's Everton manager and will get it 100% - just as all Everton managers will from me. I'll give him time.

The team is the issue though. Guardiola could come in here and that lot would ruin his CV in 3 months.
Exactly. Everton managers also need to realise that they have no scope for bad mistakes. Benitez thought it made sense to rid himself of expensive players with questionable attitudes who occasionally contributed. That was fine. The problem was, he showed far less determination to rid himself of expensive players with questionable attitudes who never contributed. So Rodriguez and Digne were ostracised, but Iwobi and Gomes were played. Madness. And that was one of the most experienced managers in the game. Lampard must not place his trust in Iwobi and Gomes. He may have no choice but to play Keane and Holgate, but where he has a choice he has to get it right.

The issue is our fanbase largely never gave the last manager a chance from the get go and its created a poisonous atmosphere around the place which our spineless players have taken advantage of and put their slippers on as they knew the manager would take the heat from the fans.

The mental gymnastics is astounding at the moment, a few examples:

Simon Buttle correctly states anyone hounding the manager oot at this stage is a fool - yet plenty on here including Kev The Rat, Marius, nsno Christopher etc were doing just that after a pre season friendly defeat away at Old Trafford.

BlueToff and many others hammered Benitez for not playing 433 - they haven't had any issue with Lampard over it.

Fans fumed when we played Coleman at LB over Digne yet Lampard yesterday selected an even worse RB in Kenny to play LB over Mykolenko an actual LB - nothing said !!

Some of our fans either cant see it or choose not to see it but they have blood on their hands and they need to repent for their sins imo.

It's nothing to do with hounding a manager out. It was the fact that vast majority did not want the manager in the first place and that was very clear to the club. It's now sad to see those who were happy clapping for Benitez to now be enjoying seeing Lampard struggle.

I would be a total hypocrite to fully back someone I believe is not suitable to be the manager of the club. I saw him as a divisive figure who was 10-15 years past his best. Everything we said would happen did happen, and it was arguably even worse than I imagined. It's a shame people were so caught up in their agenda to look out for the best interests of the club. If we go down, it will be because the previous manager played archaic park the bus hoofball and got us into a run of 1 win in 14 games. Confidence and morale were utterly destroyed.

I support the current manager and will be happy for him to stay regardless of what happens because I think he's the right man. But we know how football works. If we do go down, then they will sack him.

Thats the point though - it shouldn't matter who the fans wanted or didnt want - they should have universally backed him from the start and given these players no place to hide.

I wanted Mourinho or Kovac here when Benitez went but I'll back Frankel for at least 12 months whilst he gets to grips with the job as thats the fair thing to do.

Sadly many never with the last fella which is partly the reason why we're in the mess we find ourselves in.

Amazing isnt it?

Was all Benitez's fault

Now its none of Lampards and all these spineless players of ours

:hayee:
It wasnt Benitez fault. It is making bad decisions for years. Building a team with midgets, over the hill players, ex players (Rooney) . Keeping the guys that dont perform, buying so called big names (Iwobi, Ali, VDB, El Ghazi) without having a clue how to fit them and why they didnt perform at there old club. All that gets you a team of weak (mental and physical) non performing individuals. All that will take Everton to the championship! Nothing at this stage will help us. IT IS TO LATE!

It not about giving someone a chance and it never was.
Quite simply every man & his dog knew he was a washed up , out of date , dinosaur of a manager ....he is finished.

What part of Benitez was the wrong
choice do you not understand ?

It was the very worst managerial appointment in our history.

Sad to see the Benitez bootlickers trying to spread discord and disharmony about the new manager. There's no fans I can see against Frank's, aside from kopite wums.

We know you hitched your wagon to the useless kopite slug, you were wrong, get over it - just get behind the new manager, who is trying to get us playing the right way with the hand he has been given, while staying honest and not fishing out excuse after excuse about how it isn't his fault ir playing absolutely dreadful football.

People will not support someone who has previously heavily criticised the club, most recently managed in China, and took a team down in his last PL job.

It's not rocket science. Fans have no duty to support board decisions they believe are wrong and I would be a total hypocrite to fully back someone I believe will fail to improve the club.

The appointment was doomed from the outset. And certain fans took enjoyment from seeing Benitez go on our worst losing run in PL era. It was a horrible 6 months and I hated every second of it.

There were a good few who were on him straight away but it was a minority. Benitez got a surprisingly warm welcome once the season started and received plenty of plaudits for the early form. Even if the minority was a sizeable minority it was still that, a minority.

To say the fanbase largely never gave him a chance from the get-go is a complete myth. A lot were quicker to turn once things headed south but that's the chance taken with such a bizarre and contentious appointment. Benitez knew that better than anyone. And regardless of his RS history the appointment of a manager who's most notable CV entries over the last 10 years are relegation, winning the Championship and then dismally failing in China are not the criteria that would have bought him an awful lot of time.

People may be willing to give Lampard a pass on not playing 433 as he's shown an eagerness to play a different system within a 442 which has showed a spark or two - he's obviously still working out these players. Benitez gradually retreated into a dour system that consistently didn't work after months in charge. The comparison isn't valid.

Kenny stayed in the side yesterday because he had a very good game previous to that and for all we know Mykolenko might still be feeling his way back in from illness and couldn't be counted on for a full 90.

Nobody has "blood on their hands" and calling for change at an underachieving club spiralling into the relegation zone is not a sin.

Very frustrating that he made the same mistake of playing two in the middle as he did against Newcastle. We're simply not good enough to do that away from home.

We don't have a good trio available which doesn't include Doucoure.

We could have had 5 in there yesterday and it would have made no difference. Allan had a poor half, Gomes came on and was even worse. When VDB tried to play forward the strikers couldn't control it or hold it up. We then started playing square or hoofing it away.

When we have Doucoure, we can play a 3 effectively. Until then, there is very little we can do other than ensure players turn up ready to compete. Yesterday was all about application. Too many players showed they didn't want to match their opposite number and dropped off significantly from 7 days earlier.
