The quotes are from multiple games and him talking about what was before him.

But on his 'style', I'm of the view for now he needs to be pragmatic and pick a setup or 'style' and stick with it. Confidence is already on the floor, it's not going to help if nobody knows whether they're coming or going.

Be pragmatic - accept/understand our defence is atrocious so lets not make them any more vulnerable by pressing so high - especially away from home. It's a big reason why we've been spanked in every away game.

And, as my replies earlier - stop crying it in about what was before you. It serves only as excuses - you can't control what was before you, there's a time to reflect and rebuild - that's not now.

My reply was just responding to this, I should have been more clear:

he could start being asked why under him we're averaging less points per game, scoring less and conceding more under him than what was before him.

I think its hard to pick a settled side when the players let him down...he shouldnt reward them for failure.

I think he should go Patterson, Godfrey, Branthwaite, Mykolenko until Mina is back....high line, high press every game.

The team cant sit deeper as theyve been shown to consistently give away goals.

Just go for it.

Disagree mate.

He's trying the high press every game - it's why we've been spanked so many times and it's making a confidence crisis even worse.

I think the issue is with the defenders hes picked with no athleticism or pace. Agree to disagree.

To play a high press you need that athleticism and pace across the squad, from the front.

We don't have the squad to do it - clear as day from the Spurs and Palace games.

There's a reason it tends to be only the very top teams who play with a high line/press.

Which is even more reason why he should be playing a solid as possible back 4 and playing deep and trying to grind out results.

Holgate should be right back not centre half, he’s garbage there.
Personally I’d go
Holgate….Keane…Branthwaite…Godfrey

Or
Holgate…Keane…Godfrey….Mykolenko

Kenny and Coleman just make it weaker. Coleman might be ok if we were confident and in a safe position.

We don't have the players to press teams high up the pitch. For that type of game you need players with speed of thought, speed of foot and players who are committed; our players have none of those things. We just have to hope we can scramble enough points to keep us up and then we will hopefully get rid of the deadwood and get in a couple of players willing to play.
It seems that this has been our mantra for a few years now.

the pressing has been ones of the best parts of their recent play
its the other stuff going on around it which is where its falling down

some of the phases/transitions/sequences just leave them exposed
there's been good periods of play where they are tight around what comes off the back of the press
like breaking down opp in their half, and no matter what comes off the attack, they are ready for next way the game will break
they protect their own play

there have been periods where when we break, little eventuates, when they don't find themselves in space from the breakdown, or when they do get to play, they run out of their own play quickly, they see the oppostion and difficulty rather than the plays, it becomes a mountain to overcome rather than an opportunity
the mentality then matches the play and its very hard to get it back at such a level. And it requires a spark and our sparks disappear in such a mentality.

the team is lacking the characters to work off in how these phases, transitions/sequences play out.
It is interesting in how Mina. Donnie and even Alan are seen in terms of character.
They almost transform to parody amongst this lot.
Seamus of course is the exception to all.

That have to get their [Poor language removed] together.
Some players, right now, need to start serving the lead of others.
I'd see MIna, DVB Alan and Richarlison as those leaders
With only Richarlison less concerned with protection through phases, but pivotal with ball, he just need players to actually play with him.
Maybe Richarlison DVB Dele could give them the goals so desperately needed.

Franky need to find his sparks, not a simple thing to do though.

Personally I would not play few if any of our players except maybe Pickford, but Frank has no choice. The turd has to be polished in the final games somehow.

We can’t play a high press as we don’t have fast enough, or athletic enough, defenders and midfielders to make it work.
The game against City is how we should set up tomorrow, where we generally sat back but chose good times to try and press. Allow West Ham more of the ball, but no space for them to operate in our half and still carry an attacking threat. We’re more dangerous winning the ball back on half way/just inside our half so we can utilise space behind a back 4 with Gordon, Gray or Richarlison.

That should have been the template we never deviated from in all subsequent games.

I do think Lampard thinks too much of these players. He's got to understand that the time to play football is when we're clear; until then those players need treating and playing for what they are: a struggling team that needs to get well behind the ball and try and force an opening or two. Pretty much the rest of this division will belt us badly if we go toe to toe. I know that seems counter intuitive to claim after spending half a billion, but it is bang on the money and a cast iron fact.
