My point is that the club frustrated any real planning by failing to sell players. We were in shock and disarray when Ancelotti left. It was compounded by a very problematic transfer situation and FFP crunch.

The start to the season was better than expected. In that sense the planning worked. It all started crumbling when injury after injury mounted up.

Godfrey, Mina, DCL, Gray, Gbamin, Delph, Townsend, Doucoure and Davis have all missed a significant part of the season through injury. There are probably others too, but I forget - there have been so many.

That is has really put us in this position.

He’s generally got his tactics spot on against superior opposition; City at home, Liverpool away and Chelsea yesterday. His challenge now is to open up teams we should be able to compete with which is our next 4 fixtures. The game against Leicester was flat- that needs to change next week.

Very true. I think the real turning point was the needless second yellow he got at Turd Moor against the Garocticos. Lampard was furious and didn't even acknowledge him we he trudged off down the tunnel.
If Mina had of been fit, or if Godfrey had not have been injured, I think his absence from the team would have been sooner.

Let's be honest though, only now are we getting to averaging a point per game in Lampard's time here, which is what Benitez was getting.

Yes, I know it was worse than that in the weeks before Benitez was sacked, but we didn't pile up near enough points in February and March under Lampard and it's left us here now.

Again though: form right now is what matters. Burnley found some and Leeds are, I believe, going to be winless in 4 games after their next 2 fixtures and will go into a slump right at the moment they dont want it. We have a mixed bag of results in the last 5 games and need to build on good performances in 3 of the last 4 games.

An entire summer to plan? He joined on 30 June. The club mishandled sales and we didn’t land his important targets. No right back, no Luis Diaz.

The summer window was a calamity by the club that let Benitez and the fans down. This was coupled with Richarlison going away for two summer tournaments and DCL picking up an injury while away with England that screwed his whole season.

Ill blame Benitez for some pig headed tactics, but the majority of our problems were rooted in years of mis management and a crippling injury list.

The worst thing that happened that summer was booting out our most creative player because we hired a fat has been kopite tyrant.

We would be nowhere near the relegation zone if he was still here, even if he only played 20 games
