2022/23 Frank Lampard

In most cases yes, in Martinez’ case if really wouldn’t surprise me if he’s been sounded out again, considering he’s back over here
I mean, I think Lampard is on the verge of being punted, but if we sack him and replace with Martinez, bring the bulldozers into Goodison AND Bramley-Moore dock the day after. It's over.

This is exactly it. The only appointment we got right was Ancelotti - and even that was not the right fit in the medium term (but full marks for ambition).

Convinced Silva was a good manager, think those and in particular the DOF at the club let him down in the summer of his second season, really undermined a team he had purring the season before.

He certainly was let down - I mean, he had to contend with Brands, and the best we can say about him was that perhaps he, too, was let down. That's the challenge for DOFs and managers at Everton. They have to be able to rise above the dysfunction around them to earn the right to stay in situ and continue their "project." Lampard is, in all likelihood, going to be the next victim of this because he, too, is unable to climb above the environmental effluent that must be contended with at Goodison.

I'm not sure about mate, not only did Brands want Silva to stay on but by all accounts he put a number of players forward that window only to be told it had been taken care of already. I'm no fan of Brands and he had a lot of faults but he really didn't have much say over the players it seems. I think the damage done by Walsh/Koeman was when the board took more control and Joorabchian started appearing on the scene.

When you look at the transition from his first season to the second it was certainly external factors and and recruitment that impacted and certainly made us worse, throw in a dollop of bad luck with injuries and we blinked. He’s proving his mettle now enough to suggest, he carried the can way too much here for the circumstances. Was never a Brands fan, always felt there was a facet of the emperors new clothes with him, with little substance in performance.

We’re a curious species, in many ways I think the tail wags the dog at the club in the sense, the club and in particular this regime often react positively or negatively on the reaction of the fans to a manager. It’s a well trodden course, Martinez, Koeman, Allardyce, Silva, Benitez - interestingly despite showing many of the traits of his predecessors and maybe more limits and inexperience - Lampard is being awarded a lot of Lee way, why because he’s popular. I myself want it to work out, but I’m not oblivious either, purely because I think another reboot is undermining, but it’s an example again of the tail wagging of the dog, based of the fickleness of popularity and fan favour and that can turn very quickly - it’s no way to run a club.

Silva was right to be sacked, because we were in an absolute dive.

I wonder if he falls into the bracket of 'very good coach, questionable manager wise'.

He was let down in that summer. Think of what he lost in that summer. It appears that Brands had his hands tied with things sometimes. And it's become more and more evident that Moshiri puts his nose in all the time - see Anwar el ghazi for christ sake.

It’s all speculative mate, we don’t really know, ultimately I think he has to carry much of the responsibility, because if he was happy to accept that, 5 mill a year and a board position then he was a wrong un if that context is true. He also has a crack PR team, so I believe very little reported. Was never a fan, he couldn’t sell anyone to save his life @nd put it seems 0 structures or coherence in place, we changed our managers almost annually. He was a plague to us and buried us more financially. In my opinion anyway.

We would probably wait till the transfer deadline day to appoint someone, and then blame them for the transfers we made in the January window, just like last season
I still haven’t really heard what on Earth that was all about, Dele Alli in particular, did Frank sanction it or did someone else just randomly sign him up, unbeknown to Frank?

He annoyed me because he sat on that wage even though he appeared to be doing very little. The interview he did post EFC with the dutch media suggests he really didn't have much say in what was going on and he was coming up against brick walls in the form of Moshiri/Kenwright a lot of the time. Even if that was all true (as you said) it didn't stop doing other things (infrastructure) which he never seemed to do yet Thelwell seems to be allowed to do it and he has far less experience in the DoF role than Brands did. I remember taking pelters on here when I said Brands wouldn't work when we appointed him (Dutch guy I worked with at the time said he was totally the wrong person for us) You have to try these things though.

Managers being let down is a trend under this regime. I never liked Koeman, and predicted he'd be a poor appointment, but he was doomed the minute the summer transfer window closed with no striker signed to replace Lukaku. And, no, Rooney was not a replacement. He was a Bill stroke, designed to ensure the charlatan could claim he righted the wrong of 2004.

People make excuses for Brands, but the bitter reality is there is no point having a DoF if he is as powerless as Brands. So, he became part of the problem: a stuffed shirt taking the money in skinny jeans.

It's always going to be difficult to make it work here when you have a board/owner that is constantly looking over the shoulder rather than letting the management just get on with it.

Good post mate and I share your take. I think he or his PR team would say those things, to protect his profile and reputation, the one thing he was actually excellent at was self promotion and self PR. Yet there was 0 substance there. We are so naive sometimes. But you know more and more I think Moshiri likes having patsies around him that he can exert maximum control, there is strong evidence of it every where around our corporate governance.
