The board should not be the only target for Everton fans. Yes, they are doing a terrible job of overseeing the club and should be replaced but they are not responsible for on-field performances.
That is the job of the manager.
I really wanted Frank Lampard to succeed and it is nice that he is ‘a lovely guy’ but that’s not what he is paid many millions of pounds a year for. His job is to get points in the league and wins in knockout competitions. Being entertaining while doing so would be a bonus.
Of course the players share ‘the blame’ for where we are in the league but it doesn’t really matter because the manager ALWAYS bears the consequences. It’s how the football system has always worked.
There is no need to feel too upset for Frank. Unlike most of the rest of us if we lose our jobs, he would get a multi-million pound payoff to add to the fortune he made as a great footballer. After a break, he would go on to make more millions as manager of another team, a TV pundit or through his real estate investments. I don’t begrudge him any of it. Good luck to him.
As for Everton fans, we will hope that a new manager (or Frank) can get just enough out of the squad to stay in the Premier League (like he managed to do last season) and justify the best part of £1,000 that we spend each year on season tickets, jerseys and other stuff.
I don't care who the new manager will be (or even if there isn’t a new manager) provided we stay in the Premier League. If we get relegated, getting back up will be a challenge that the club shows no sign of being prepared for.
