2022/23 Frank Lampard

Think the decision to stick or twist with Lampard is made harder at this stage because they’ve waited until it’s too late for anyone new to be able to have a successful January transfer window. They should’ve had a good idea of whether they were going to take action during the World Cup break, but now we probably have no choice but to stick (against my better judgement), as in theory it gives us a better chance of getting in some priority transfer targets which is what will really be the difference in keeping us up. Negligent from those who wield all the power once again

For me this squad needs a defensive system my 3 choice would be

Tuchel very unlikely. Got to ask the question tho he replaced Lampard before I would like to see him do it again.

Nuno I think he would do well with this squad. Give him a couple of his own players this window to fit his system we would be fine.

Dyche I think he could get more out of this squad. Then Lampard is currently doing but isn’t the answer long term.

Annual reminder that sacking the manager is not a solution.

Finding a better one is.

If we sack him, and then carry out a two-week long recruitment process like last year, we're likely toast. The new manager, whenever it happens, needs to be passing Lampard in the car park.

Chances are they haven’t even started looking. They’re literally deciding on a game to game basis whether or not they even want to keep him. They don’t have a clue what they’re doing.

This x 2.

Like Frank, and the problems have been brewing decades before he arrived. But there are teams way way above us made up of players we wouldn’t touch.

Sick of the “I want to play this style of football but we have to sacrifice it due to players” attitude. Stop trying to do a hybrid then and chopping and changing. Pick a solid, simple, probably direct way of playing that mitigates the MAIN weaknesses (impossible to cover all of them), and at least gives a chance to our strengths (which might be meagre but even the crappest teams have strengths).

We lurch from formation to formation based on injuries, opponent, recent form, importance of game, and we never master any of them.

FL claims he knew we were going to be in another relegation battle. He should have spent all summer defining the above solid, simple, direct way of playing and drilled and drilled and drilled it.

Said it a billion times, the players are average to poor, but the performances and results are much much worse than poor. And not even consistently poor. Mosh, Bill, Walsh, Koeman etc have built probably the worst squad in my lifetime. But they are still capable of more than they are getting. That’s not on Walsh.

That game last night has been costly.

Iwobi lost to injury in a game that meant nothing to our fight for survival.

And it's provided a dithering boardroom more scope for dither in not getting a new manager in.

We need leadership off the field now. The drift is killing us.

Iwobi was Frankels only real creative outlet.

I think our only two options are now:

1. A big name progressive manager to excite the fans and give these players a short-mid term buzz to play with confidence above themselves i.e Poch

2. A manager capable of shutting up shop and being tough to beat i.e Tuchel or Dyche.

It'll be tonight or tomorrow Frank will be sacked - or he's getting the S'ton game.

I hope this delay is all about finalising a new manager right now and they have learned the lessons of the recent past allowing a managerial hunt to drag on.

We need to see FL sacked over this weekend and then an announcement of his successor early next week.
Haha no way this board learn lessons they wait until the fans turn and then sack the manager and only after that do they look for his replacement. I bet Thelwell hasn't even got a shortlist he will still be looking for a head of recruitment.

As much chance of us winning the fa cup this season

I said last night someone like Dyche is ill-suited to the personnel we have here. The solid FBs and big target man and someone with mobility who can play off him aren't here. And he's too brusque for this lot.

Nuno has a good defensive set up and he's a comforter. He'd get the respect of players and they'd want to play for him.

It's an interesting take that but I disagree - I think in Mykolenko/Godfrey and Coleman/Holgate you've got your two solid FBs on either side. The "big target man" definitely needs bringing in as we can't rely on DCL, but the mobile forward who leads the press is Gordon/Maupay. What worries me more is the profiles in midfield - Dyche's teams often are accused of lumping it into no mans land to be chased, but that's not really true; midfielders like Westwood, Jack Cork, Defour were all really effective, direct passers who played a big part in their counter attacks. We really don't have that in our team - there isn't anyone that good on the ball bar Iwobi who's been stretchered off!

I'm still definitely on the side of Dyche over plenty of other options, he's demonstrated he's capable of coaching a defence more effectively than Lampard (my opinion) and more capable of coaching an effective high press (objective fact) with far more limited players. But we'd nevertheless need to move very quickly in January, which Everton tend not to do...

Pochettino and tuchel will not join Everton, so that leaves dyche. Some wishlist.

Yes, it is Frank's fault, mate. He's the manager. I don't know the power dynamics at Goodison, but Frank isn't some powerless coach being presented with rubbish transfers that he doesn't want, or no transfers at all. He must have been a key part of the process that's left us with 23 centre halves and one, injury prone, centre forward. If he was persistently being denied the tools to do his job, then he should have resigned and said why. Even the modest money spent on the team has been enough, together with the decent players already present, even during the relatively short Lampard regime, to have us away from immediate danger instead of slap bang in it, and in a nose dive. He's just got to go.
He hasn’t had a striker and lost the best attacking player in Richie. On top of that Gray and Gordon haven’t been as good as predicted. We’ve had plenty of games that we would’ve won with better attaching players.
Are you saying Frank is turning down attacking players that are being offered to him? Come on.
