2022/23 Frank Lampard

This genuinely a massive week I think. Win both games and things look a bit brighter going into the break. Lose both and moshiris trigger finger is going to have a very itchy month.

I really really hope we don’t sack him because at some point we have to give someone more time, but he needs to start showing that time will help. Finding solutions to problems is what he gets paid for, he needs to start earning his money.

Agreed I dont want us sacking managers all the time - I never called for Benitez's head neither have I Lampards but as you say you can't keep faith with someone at the helm just for the sake of it.

You look at the likes of Southampton under Hassanhuttl who have coasted for years in mediocrity and are no better in their "stability" than we've been in our hiring and firing spree in recent years.

I've said all along that unless relegation looks certain Lampard should be kept in charge for at least the next 18 months. I would say this opinion is shared by an overwhelming majority.

Within that majority however there seems to be a lot of people who think Lampard being given time will almost certainly amount to big improvements. That's blind faith territory. We could easily keep Lampard around for 5 years and be no better off than where we are now.

That’s because you’re a bottom dweller, kopite loving apologist who hasn’t got the balls to make a statement

Instead you’ll underhandedly like every negative post about managers, Carlo was first then Frank, but fat kopite ballbag gets full support

So sniff it

Benitez made a decent start then won one in 14 or something pathetic. We were on the worst downwards trajectory I’ve ever seen.

Under Lampard we’re still having more bad days than good but there’s clearly improvement in the defence and the midfield.

If he and Thelwell can make that much improvement in one window, he deserves another couple to try and turn around the attack. I think if he didn’t know already, he now knows we can’t rely on Dom to be fit.

My concern is how much of that improvement is down to Lampard and how much is it down to having Coady, Tarkowski and Gana to help in defence this season?

Two games are big this week. Would be gutted to go out the cup early but we need to prioritise the league.

I do wonder with Southampton though, if he goes you will see the next guy really struggle.

A lot of the teams around us have hard games at he weekend too. Leeds are at Spurs, Brentford-City, Southapton at Liverpool and Wolves/Villas games tough too. If we win against Brentford, it will probably look a lot rosier.

A loss though, and it's very touch and go again.

I like Lampard, and I'm not at calling for his head time, but 14 games in, following 19 last season and it's close to a season in charge. There were a lot of extenuating circumstances last season that go in his favour, but he had the benefit of a pre season, and the overall results havent improved much.

It's really difficult, as honestly think there could be 8-10 teams who are going to be separated by a handful of points at the end of the season. I have a feeling we may get a big win at Bournemouth and it's a deceptively good time to play them. That defeat at Leeds will have been a body blow.

But for Lampard, it's no longer a short period of time that hes been here, and it feels hes been here long enough to have some judgements made.

I've backed our last 3 managers - criticising doesn't equate to demanding their sacking.

You on the other hand have form for causing mutiny in the ranks.

Sorry Jimmy Krankie wannabe, but thats plainly not true.

The only manager I have known you to back since you joined this forum has been Rafael.

Im sorry if you dont accept that, but its very much the truth.

Bournemouth have no problem scoring goals ?
They have scored four more than we have while conceding twice as many, plus those four goals again. They're not prolific scorers, and they're abysmal in defense.

We're in a prolonged scoring drought because the midfield is getting bossed. They send the ball backwards in possession, because when they don't they lose it. Our passing is unimaginative, first touches are poor, Myko is the only person getting forward into good positions, and the rest aren't moving well without the ball. On the occasions when we do create good chances, we don't finish them.

The lack of goals is a team effort, from back to front. We need both wing backs crashing forward to provide additional passing outlets and width. We need the actual wingers dropping back to pick up the ball, then finding a target in front of them. Onana needs to create more havoc when we get to the final third. The problems are all over the pitch.

When we do that, we start creating chances. When we don't, we almost never have the ball in the final third, and end up hunkered down in our own end.

How much of that is on the manager is up for debate. If players aren't doing the little things right, usually that's the person that takes the blame. It's not like he's out there on the pitch flubbing touches and playing it backward, though.

Completely inaccurate mate.

I backed Carlo to get a 2nd full season (although I made it clear I wouldn't care if he did a bunk as felt he was more suited to managing elite players than our rag tag bunch that needed micro managing).

I backed Benitez as he had buttons to spend in the summer and the worst injury crisis thats hit the club in decades.

I currently back Lampard although he's making it difficult in doing so with his love of 16th place.

I probably did call for the heads of Koeman/Silva but both had lots of money to spend and couldnt hack it... also at that point in my life I hadn't yet found spirituality.

Could you start a thread offering spiritual advice for forum regulars please?

I'm sure Frank Lampard might sign up just for it, help manage the stress of the job.

Yeah that’s pretty much how I see it. I don’t want him gone but if we lose next week and find ourselves in the relegation zone then he could hardly say it was harsh if it happened in all fairness.

There’s a lot to like with lampard but it’s a results business and we’re neither getting the results or performing in a way that suggests that’s going to change any time soon. At some point the progress that everyone keeps insisting we’ve made has to actually translate onto the pitch, otherwise it’s not progress at all.
