Patterson and Myko never signed? or have i imagined this??

We went quite a few windows spending a shedload of money, it doesn't guarantee success.

The loan and the free will have still cost money though. A Dutch international player from Manchester United who they signed for 40 million and England International player from Spurs who will be paid in excess of 100k per week.

Everyone was buzzing about our window at the time.

I certainly wasn’t, thought it was an absolute disaster and that proved to be the case.

Ok, lets give him a pass on that window even though he would have been in discussions with Everton for a number of days before he signed with us.

Last season he managed us for 18 premier league games and averaged 1.11 points per game.

This season after having the summer transfer window and 14 games he is averaging a point per game.
I get that and agree its not good enough now. But he has had 1 actual window and focused on defence/midfield. (Which is what howe did at newcastle in his first window). However, our forward line has failed to live up to expectations and I would imagine the plan was to upgrade it in January regardless but thought they would get more out of it than they have so far.

We have recently got a lot of fans who think spending money is why a team like Newcastle does well.

I must have dreamt us spending over 500 million on players.
I was never a fan of nice guy Eddie, but for me hes got a mostly average group of players flying.

Yes hes spent money, but his best player is probably Almiron, who was that bad that other pros took the pee.

My biggest gripe was hes done nothing of note, but if he gets Newcastle to top 4 thats a major achievement.

But yes, not many teams have spent more than us in the last few years.

Imagine the success Lampard would have if he was at a club and spent over 200 million in a single window and a free signing of superstar Thiago Silva.

Lampard didn't sign them though. The Kopite Slug did after selling another key player...with one only playing by default as we didn't have a left back.

Bottom line is you're praising Howe spending £90million on a spine of a team to get them off the bottom of the table...and comparing it to Lampard who spent technically zero in fees.

Of course he's going to struggle.

That January window we signed two international fullbacks both in excess of 15 million

We got the services of a Dutch international player who United had paid 40 million for from Ajax. Plus, the free signing of an England international who won the PFA young player of the year 2 seasons in a row who will be paid in excess of 100k per week.

What's mad is that Howe's PPG in the PL with Bournemouth is higher than Lampard's is with us. And his Bournemouth team was substantially worse.

Mad how people can manipulate stats too depending where you look.

Because if you look at per season they're pretty much the same. Highest Howe has is 1.26. Lampards is 1.24.

Or you just want to talk about the 100+ games Howe managed at Bournemouth to the 30 odd that Lampard has with us? Which is in any comparison isn't a fair metric.

Did we pay £90million for a new spine of a team?

No we got what we paid for. 2 young fullbacks (one who actually played) and 2 players no club's wants for zero fees.

So we got what we paid for...a struggle.

And "international" doesn't mean "good".

Not sure on this.

We got into trouble because we wouldn't play to our strengths and go long more on Saturday. We passed the ball around aimlessly. I want us to be far more direct.
I was surprised we had 50% of the ball if honest
I did think we knocked it about the back 4, then hit it long….. but that Luiz look alike won everything

Personally I would like to see a style of football that the manager wants….at the moment not sure he knows he has worked it out
