Gardening with Joey

Late to this one but I’m not going near my garden until we swing back around on this rock us scum have cultivated on.
Growing plants helps the environment - They take out CO2 -Carbon dioxide, and give out Oxygen {O} in their respiration system in the daytime -At night time they just stop as photosynthesis ends - they do not reverse the process as that's an old wives tale....
So growing plants is environmentally friendly - that's why parks in the Victorian era were so popular constructed in the large cities - why Avenues had trees etc etc....
All to clean the air ways even back then.....

Hi @Joey66. I planted some rugosa rose bushes in May. Is there anything I should do to prepare them for winter?
Are they in pots or bare rooted ? Anyway rose love a heavy clay heavy soil, & love bone meal a good half hand full mixed well in the hole with compost you plant them in & they won't look back the feed will last for 3 years which you replenish on the surface around the plant every 3 years in Bone meal plus rotted compost or multi-purpose compost hoed into the top layer around your bush .....
Check out for black spot periodically, either spray or remove the affected leaves it's a common thing - nothing to worry too much about just keep an eye on it - plant in a sunny position facing south to avoid this ;)

Nice one, thank you. Bare rooted

Should I cut back and prune all my chili plants for the winter? And if so how much?

@Joey66
Cut back leaving the 3 strongest stems above a node about 6 inches long - remove all leaves and keep warm well above frost free, but dryish through the winter... as spring arrives when new growth appears feed lightly - Then treat them in very hot conditions with humidity for another crop....

Nice one, thank you. Bare rooted
Ideal give them a very light prune, any crossing branches or oldish wood remove plant them firmly with your heel when you prepare your hole adding the bone meal, compost etc light water them in and forget them till next spring .....they will kick into growth you then need to also put cross wire structure next year in for support to keep them in control plus get the best view of the flowers....

I always procrastinate with the starting of my seedlings until it is too late and I just put them on the ground but this article has motivated me to begin my growing season this weekend. @Joey66 would you be starting sowing your seeds soon?

Only certain crops if you have heat of 15 C sow
I got run of the mill seed can be as late as April ......earlier crops I sow in a poly tunnel in a container with a extra tent of a milky bin liner poly bag works a treat to generate heat ......

Dear Joey
I have an established pear tree around 15' High which I have pruned regularly. At the very top is a forest of new straight sucker growth where I have pruned this back to old branches In the past I've cut this back and it comes back with a vengeance.

I'm trying to keep to a steady height and shape. What do you suggest?

I had to convert celsius to fahrenheit and I have come up with 21 so I should be good to get some seeds started indoors. We keep our home toasty for this Colombian and our hermit crabs lol But I'm going to look into the poly tunnel. What would you be sowing under yours? And how soon?

Thanks for all the advise.

15c to 20c is fine 60 - 70 degrees Fahrenheit is sufficient for most seeds the more tropical the plant like geraniums, peppers etc the highest 20 c is best .........

Hope you don't mind me giving this thread a bump @Joey66
I'm looking to plant some form of climber to grow against my shed, both to screen it and to possibly provide future nesting opportunities for birds.
My first thought was ivy, but ideally I would like something faster growing. I'm no gardener, so don't want anything that needs too much care. The shed faces NE and is semi shaded.
Roses? Honeysuckle? Any ideas or advice would be gratefully received. ;)
