Gareth Barry

Top pro. I'm only speculating, but I reckon the experience and level-headedness he brings to the dressing room is also a massive factor. He's been around and played at the highest level, he'll be the first to say "clam down lads, we haven't won anything yet."

I have high hopes that we'll sign him permanently at the end of the season, and we can get another 2-3 years out of him at the same level.

Gibson may, but also may not ever recover to consistently be at the level he was before, but even then Barry would be getting his share of games.

...thought he was MoM yesterday. Right place, right time so often its uncanny. Always remember him playing CB for Villa as a 17 year old against big Dunc in his pomp and doing brilliant in a 0-0 draw.

He's quite possibly the most important player in the side, what he gives with his passing, awareness and composure is invaluable to our defence and it tells a story when the only game I felt nervy watching all season is this one. Only really Gibson comes close to what he provides but he's injured so much that it's a bonus when he's fit but that isn't very often.

Burn is spot on here, says exactly what my City mates have said. They're all disappointed they let him go.

The blow has been softened a bit now as Fernandinho has settled in, it was a risky move at the time though. In hindsight it was probably a good move for all concerned as Barry deserves to be playing regularly, glad to see he's doing the business still (y)
