Honestly surprised at the release given Citeh's sanctions.

Hope we sign him quickly.

To be fair it's probably also down to Barry. He won't sign a contract with the intention of being a bit part player at best. Partly why I'm still reasonably optimistic we'll sign him, because he knows he's guaranteed first team football here.

that £2.5m isn't legally possible.

Why not? If it's not deemed a restriction of trade or whatever, two parties can freely agree to pay each other X amount in Y circumstance.

If the agreement were that we wouldn't sign him at all, they'd struggle to enforce that, but a conditional payment seems less dubious.

Probably all nonsense like.

Because the player has been released from Man City, they have no right to gain anything for the player anymore, if he was 21 they'd be able to get compo obviously.

Understand that people are biting their nails on this but I'm still confident we'll get him. The reason it hasn't been done already could be for a simple reason. My guess is that he's probably taken his family on holiday after the season's ended, he said he'd do so back in February if he didn't make the World Cup squad.

He knows we've probably got a deal waiting for him when he gets back and he and his agent have agreed to go over offers. Would be a shame if he decides to go the America to get himself a retirement fund, he showed last season he can clearly still play at top level.

I want him back, he's still got a couple of years in him if we use him wisely. That and the fact he would be excellent to have on the training ground and in the dressing room. He's clearly a model pro and not in the Phil Neville sense, twice the player.

But clearly age is getting to him if we continue to play him every game, looked a bit fatigued at times. We would have to stump up a fair amount in wages which might better be spent elsewhere.

Happy if he stays but not too disappointed if he leaves.
