I share your fears about Gibson. It's frustrating, because when he's fit he usually plays very well.

If Southampton have just banked around £56m for Lambert, Shaw and Lallana, I can't see them letting any more first-team players go. They've sold the two likely to raise the most cash but left their defensive core intact by keeping Lovren, Schneiderlin and Wanyama. If they sold any of those three now, I think they'd be risking plummeting back down the table.

It would be a very welcome development if Barkley showed an ability to play a little further back - not saying I DON'T want him as a 10, but flexibility is always welcome.
I reckon S'ton are open to just about any deal, tbh.

Whatever, we have to have an option from CM next season. Two, primarily, holding CMs are acceptable against the elite clubs. But in a lot of other games we could do with adding an attacking dimension to that department and really put the opposition on the rack. I don't think Mccarthy will ever give us that. I know RM reckons he can add it to his game, but he looks a bit clueless in that respect to me...although he has got the odd goal, I'd accept.

We need investment here, I think.

How about De Guzman? On loan?

It's absolutely ridiculous that people are questioning Gareth Barry at all .. He is essential!

Without spending record transfer fee's you are not going to get his quality for free again, regardless of wages! Fact!! Worth every penny IMO

Is he free or costing £2m?

Southampton would want in the region of 15 million for Wanyama. Strange situation at Southampton, she wants to sell the club as she has no interest in football but they are still ploughing ahead with the new 30 million training academy and looking at expanding St Marys as well.

I bet they have new owners before us as well.

Even if we have to pay £2m he is still worth it.

To put it into perspective, Liverpool just bought 32 year old Lambert for £4m plus add-ons.

If a player is valued, age is irrelevant - as long as it is the 1 or 2 exception to your transfer policy and not your main transfer policy.

Quite possible its true, we never paid his full wages and with it being done last minute we probably agreed to it.
That could only stand true up to 1st jUly though, As soon as Barry has seen out his contract City have absolutely no ground to stand on.

Could explain why it's taking so long really.

I think that barry wil be signed and we will have him, mccarthy and another defensive midfielder who will be u21 and can be brought on by barry.

Think we will also sign a more box to box centre mid and have ledson as backup.

That would make a lot of sense as barry would be helping out the younger lads for 3 years.

Some reports suggesting we had an agreement with City to pay a fee if we went on to sign him. Not sure what the truth is

I fail to see how such an agreement can hold any water legally.

Once his contract is up, he's a free man and not bound to any rules by Man City. He has no association with the club at all.

This really.

If you were to leave a job somewhere they wouldn't then ring u up asking for brew and biscuits money.

Just a reminder that his contract with City lasts until June 30, making him a free agent from July 1st (basic FM knowledge and also the case for most contracts in real life). It could be that we have to wait until July 1st (when City can't demand anything as he is not their player anymore) to officially offer him a contract to avoid paying the £2m fee that people have been talking about. Just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is something in this. I think he'll be signed on tuesday or wednesday (July 1st/2nd), and to be honest I think a 3 year deal seems fair for a player of his calibre. He's got many good seasons left in him imo.
