Good work this from Everton, always exoected this one to come off, he was great for us last season, onwards and upwards.

3 year deal is stupid.

That's vaulting material if I ever saw it.

Seriously though. Why do people crack on players getting three years at 33? It's not like he was injury prone, slowing down, showing signs of age. If any of that was clearly evident, then yes, three years would have been a year too long.

Also, I figure that it wasn't the wages so much as that this would be his last contract and whoever offered him three years was probably going to win the deal.

Injury prone no, but he was certainly showing signs of fatigue at the end of games.

Im NEA myself, its not as if I have to pay him for 3 years, he seems a good fella, im sure if at some point he cant perform he will "do the right thing", I honestly cant see him seeing out the contract tho.

I'm happy for him to stick round during the formative years of some of our very good young midfielders and hopefully mentor them into being the best they can.

Who would you rather have as a mentor?

Stevie "Slip up" G

Or

Gareth Barry

I know which one hasn't beaten up a dj and shows a bit of class and humility.
