He'll be off to the US before that contract runs out anyway, and we'll get ~1 mil whenever that happens so no biggy.

Bet there are some in here with massive amount of egg on their face now !!

That right there was undoubtedly one of the most crucial moments of last season for us. We concede there, and then sections of the crowd aren't too thrilled about the idea of playing from the back. Fortunately, Gaz Baz saves the day in one of the best debut performances I've ever seen and we go on to win the game and kick start our season.

This will probably be the most important deal for the year along with signing a top quality striker.
It was absolutely essential to keep Barry and McCarthy together in midfield!

Awesome to lock down GarBar... It made sense for him to stick with us and I'm glad we've finally started to make moves in locking down some players.

If, and I know it's a big if, Gibson can stay healthy, then we have a pretty solid CM trio that can play the defensive role and allow Barkley to take up the attacking MF duties. A good signing, IMO.

Other people MAY have been able to fit in to the system but we know what we're getting with Barry.
We now know Baines and Coleman can maraud forward as much as they like, and that we're a top striker away from being a top notch team next season.
Pick up that striker and a few bodies, maybe improvements, to help with Europe and I'll be delighted.

That's vaulting material if I ever saw it.

Seriously though. Why do people crack on players getting three years at 33? It's not like he was injury prone, slowing down, showing signs of age. If any of that was clearly evident, then yes, three years would have been a year too long.

Also, I figure that it wasn't the wages so much as that this would be his last contract and whoever offered him three years was probably going to win the deal.

He was IMO. Maybe not slowing down because he was already slug-like, but he was utterly goosed for a good two months after Christmas. Or maybe it was just because he'd played a lot of games and was alongside McCarthy who seems to be incapable of tiring.
