4. Gareth Barry (96 bookings)
The man in the running for the title. Barry added one more to his 96 on Saturday, and the midfielder could be top of the list by the end of this season with Everton if he continues his trend.

In Barry's defence, the 33-year-old sits fifth in the Premier League's all-time appearances list, too, having played more than 500 games for Aston Villa, Manchester City and Everton combined. Working in the engine room, a yellow card arriving here or there can only be expected.

I don't think he has been anywhere near as effective this season as he was when he first came to us. With Gibson fit I expected Barry to be rested for Europa league and other cup games.

Also, he seems to be playing higher up the pitch this season

He's doing this I think because we have no playmaker/attacking midfielder. Naismith is trying to get on the end of thing as is whoever is playing up top. So Barry is having to bring the ball into the space and try and create things.

I also think this is the reason we are shipping goals. Barry is an insurance policy but because he's playing so far forward when the ball is turned over and the opposition is breaking, they are running at just our two centre backs which is causing understandable havoc.

Barkley retuning and returning quickly is so so important IMO.

We are conceding so many goals due to individual errors being made by experienced pro footballers, basic schoolboy errors.

Thats the only factor at play here.

Kind of like trying to change your name, and allowing everyone to vote for one they want you mean mate?

School boy indeed.

Gaz Baz ain't no school boy.

At least my old name wasnt banned lad, yano?

Im just saying that tactics are a minor issue, but all the tactics in the world wont help you when your 37 year old CB does a diving header off your own crossbar, yano?

Liked mkrudden analysis. Without someone to pull the strings in mid-field we have to ask sitting players to push up and try to make things happen. This exposes our centre backs. Barkley returning should sort out some problems, hopefully it will allow the sitting pair to protect the centre and his runs forward will create space for forwards. It might even inspire Lukaku to put in a bigger effort.

Said it last season and again now he stopped playing well about January time and looks absolutely shot. Its a big problem defensivley as the opposition are walking through our midfield.

Besic McCarthy Barkley please when all fit.

McCarthy has to up his game also..
