Has been poor this season apart from 30 minute spells against Arsenal and Wolfsburg. Simple conclusion is though that you can't expect a 33 year old centre mid to keep the same levels for 38 games a season. But yet again, just like we did with Neville we're putting one in one of the most crucial positions in the team. When he's not 100% sharp he's too slow and his passing is not penetrative enough. Cupled with McCarthy you don't get enough creativity out of midfield if Barkley is not playing. I would go with a diamond of Gibson then McCarthy and Besic, then Barkey. Pace power, creativity and graft.

You also don't know anything about football.

We are conceding so many goals due to individual errors being made by experienced pro footballers, basic schoolboy errors.

Thats the only factor at play here.

Well of course, yes I agree with you - it's the errors that are causing us to ship goals.

But why are the errors I occurring? Even at amateur level, many of us know that when we aren't fit or out of form we can misplace the easiest of passes.

I think that because there isn't a balance to our formation at the mo, because Barry is playing so much further forward, our two centre halves and keeper are being exposed over and over again. This is causing panic, stupid decisions and ultimately costly mistakes.

All I'm saying is that with Barkley back I think there will be more rhythm and comfort in the team. The CBs will relax and play their game more confidently because Barry will be there doing his holding role rather than trying to dictate play in the final third.

Ey, I could be wrong - just my thoughts on it.

who would you put up front with that formation lid

He'd have done a far better job at the World Cup in the holding role than that kn*bhead from across the park did.
In theory yes, as he is a much better holding midfielder than Gerrard is.

However Barry looked exhausted by the end of the season, as did the much younger McCarthy, from the number of games they both had to play without a break. Given the harsh conditions in Brazil and the little rest not sure how he would have coped physically.

Gibson and Besic will be key to us staying fresh in the centre this season. Treat the former with kid gloves to save his glass knees and ease the latter in to adjust to the Premier League and (long term injuries aside) we look pretty decent in that area.
