Footballers themselves tend to be homophobic. Evra once said that most of his West Ham teammates were homophobic. Rakitic once said that "gays are not allowed in the changing room".

Think of it this way, playing professional football involves using locker rooms and sometimes seeing intimate parts of somebody. A footballer, who likely has homophobic attitudes, would be far less comfortable sharing a locker room with a known homosexual. The homosexual footballer would never be able to fit in ever.

To share some context, you tend to get footballers "coming out" in countries like USA or Australia because football happens to be a rich middle-class sport and sometimes seen as "feminine" in these countries. In Europe, footballers come from machismo working-class backgrounds.
I honestly don't think all footballers are homophobic. I don't think homophobia is a rich/poor issue either. People from all sorts of backgrounds have homophobic opinions.

Nobody is arguing that ALL footballers are homophobic. Not once did I mention that. Even if 10% of footballers are homophobic, that's enough to make a big issue. However if you believe all footballers happen to be very tolerant and accepting, then you are living in cloud cuckoo cuckoo land.

Homophobia isn't a rich/poor issue, and I never argued that. Homophobia is an upbringing and education issue. Lack of education, cultural/religious factors and emphasis on masculinity are probably the main contributors for homophobia, and all these things are synonymous with the working-class community that play football. Playing football is seen as a masculine thing in the UK, so therefore it's going to be far more homophobic. If you take the average male teacher and then the average male builder, the chances are; the average male builder is going to be more homophobic because of the masculinity in their roles in the society.

5% homosexuals.

20 Premier League teams x 30 players per squad = 600 players.

So that means roughly 30 players are gay and around another 60 are in the closet.

Not everybody who is gay feels shame you know.

The fact that you say they wouldnt tell anybody just shows what a massive bible shagging bigot you are.

Well …. If you ignore the fact that woman’s football is growing more popular every day … you would see it as a masculine game I suppose

Would it bother you if one of your children grew up to be gay?
Would you still love that child?

The women's game is full of homosexuals.
