Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

He's going to be an incredible player. I can't think of many other players in the world who I expect to beat his man every single time he has the ball.

But I don't think he's playing for the team at the moment. Just speculating, of course, but I suspect he's got a bit of an ego on him because he knows how good he is, and it impacts his decision-making on the pitch. I'm sure we'll see more of him once Martinez is convinced he'll know when to keep it simple.

Thats why they have loaned him out mate.
If you watch him for barca B, half the time I've seen him he is so greedy and selfish. For eg, If its 2v1 instead of passing he will shoot or try and dribble past the keeper.

Of course hes got an ego, he is playing for the best team in the world in Spain and has come over to England to play against the likes of Stevenage.

He will play a big part in our season starting january because everyone will be tired in our squad

Nice to have a player of such impact available to spring from the bench with 20 minutes left though, must be horrible for opposing defenders.

Why? Because they're both 19? Don't be daft.
Ross has been at Everton since he was a child. He knows the players, he knows the club, he doesn't need acclimatizing.
ITO ability Deulofeu very well could be ahead of Barkley but he is most definitely currently best utilized as an impact player while he acclimatizes. From December he'll likely be starting.

Let me be more explicit, on performances I have seen him give for Everton, Deulofeu is playing at no lower a level than Barkely, who starts every week.

Sounds like the boy most certainly has something of an ego on him.

Ego or no ego, I think there is something in there about him wanting to go it alone all the time. For me, his decision making can leave something to be desired. Sometimes playing the pass rather than the impossible shot is needed. Twice last night he got right up close to the Newcastle keeper and tried to shoot, when he should have passed sooner.

Hopefully he'll work it out...

I get the feeling after the evidence from Fulham and last night's game Lukaku wouldn't thank you for picking him to start with him.

At least it's a Barcelona starlet we're complaining about than Phil Neville showing up in midfield most weeks.

He's a greedy little sh*t but he's got unbelievable talent and pace to boot, he'll be sound once he's been kicked around the park a couple of times.

That moment last night where he cuts in from the right into the box and around two Newcastle defenders was superb - looked like he was hardly moving - but once he did that the head should have been up and picking a team-mate out rather than trying to squeeze it past Krul near post. Barca wont tolerate it; and if it's not good enough for Martino, it shouldn't be good enough for Martinez either.

Good article, and that's exactly why he's at Everton. He needs games and he needs to have the crap kicked out of him by the Stokes of this world to realise that trying a Maradona every time isn't going to cut it at the top levels of the game.

He's a stunning talent obviously, but if he puts it together with a much better level of decision making then he's going to be a goal a game in the bank guaranteed.

Scary thing is that at Everton right now we're watching three players who are going to be right up there with the best in the world in Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley - but at the moment, Deulofeu's overall game isn't a patch on the other two, and that's why he's on the bench whilst the other two are automatic starters. He should be looking around him and realising that.
