I've come across a toilet with a plastic wing nut a few times.

Should really have a plastic bolt too but he's saying it rusted though as they worry about shredding plastic threads on metal bolt. Unless of course it's merely a cover to turn a standard metal nut in to a wing nut

@Ashtonian can you post a pic of the back of the toilet seat near the tank where the hinge is to show the bolt head. Seems weird to have a metal bolt with a plastic wing nut, plastic is usually only used on metal as an insert on a locking nut.

He's already sent me a pic. Bit difficult to see, tried zooming in but no luck.
See if you can do any better...
