Getting off a toilet seat

Shudder to think how Ash's toilet is looking right now, no seat and broken bolts crudely poking through the pan holes. Makes the toilet on Trainspotting look like an award-winning public convenience.

Random diy question here.

Toilet seat been broken since we moved in on the upstairs one. It broke away not too long ago and trying to change it now.

Problem I have is its not coming off. It's a big bolt with a plastic nut with wings if that makes sense. I have for it so far down but it won't turn any more. Well it's turning but not going down anymore and have been turning it for at least 25 minutes.

Any advice here or do I have to just cut the thing off?

Strange fetish @Ashtonian has...i've got to be honest here, i've never considered how to "get off" a toilet seat. It's an inanimate object ffs.

As for "toilet seats to get you off", the Japanese ones which shoot water are brilliant. Warm and comfortable and fully automated...
