Goats squad analysis thread 2023/24

Despite slightly more frugal spending in recent years, we've still got the 14th most expensive squad in world football.

Our midfield cost 5x more to assemble than Villa and more than Bayern, Juve, Leipzig, Atletico, Napoli and Barcelona's. Those clubs all benefit from having academy players in their squads, whilst we have none in our midfield - that has to be a huge issue to address in the coming years.

£151mil in MF ?

LW:
McNeil £15mil
Danjuma £3mil loan
Dobbin £0 youth

CM:
Onana £33mil
Garner £9mil
Gana £2mil

RW:
Harrison: £0 loan

ACM: Doucoure £22mil

£84mil.

At a massive stretch you could throw in Chermiti (played ACM yesterday) and Dele (up to £40mil lol )

But those figures seem way off.

With us nearing the cusp of January and the lunacy of the mid season transfer window, where is the squad/side up to?

Doucoure is looking rather important isn't he.
It's not looking like Dele is going to feature.
Young is showing he's lost the last parts of his game.
Coleman doesn't appear any closer to a full return, even a limited return.
Harrison I'm starting to have a few doubts creep in - perhaps it's the comparison with the left side of Myko-McNeil that is emphasising the paucity of the right.
Danjuma is rarely getting any time.
The Chermiti signing is looking odd with Dobbin already here.

What are we looking for, an Oviedo type to cover both LB and RB? An alternate RW loanee? It's looking like carousel of transfers and contracts in the summer. Need one of those miracle windows Moyes used to find by getting in three or four first team players for under £5million total.

We have a decent first XI with maybe 4 or 5 viable squad options who can come in and make a positive, substantive difference. And a few more who havent really been given a chance. In short, bare bones.

Picked out 6 players with arrows (<<<<) who I'm expecting are likely to be finished with us by the summer.
Seems Holgate is likely due back, and Maupay aint tearing up tree's on his loan, I can see him coming back as well.
24 players in the squad currently, 6 out leaves 18, with 2 returning is a squad of 20 total. It's no secret it's looking like the right offers would see Holgate and Godfrey allowed to move on (and Maupay for that matter), There is not a lot of fat to trim from this set of players, league survival and another years limping on with three quarters of a squad seems the direction of travel. Cutting back and hoping to get a miracle season to make up for so many players signed for such fee's and then leaving for nothing has cost us so very very dearly. (Sig 44M, Bolasie 22M, Gbamin 25M, Mina 26M, Gomes 24M, Walcott 22M, Tosun 26M These all left/leave of frees - circa 185M - this is the P&L issue in itself)[Delph 8M, L Gibson 6M Sandro 5M Rooney 10M Mirallas 6M] (Add in a 17M loss on Allan, 20M loss on Schneiderlin, 10M loss McCarthy, 12M loss Klaassen) (59M here)
Not sold enough for profit, and lost to much getting nothing in return. Lescott, Rodwell, Stones, Barkley, Gordon - are sales that've kept the club from the mire we're in now happening earlier.
We're not a graveyard as such, but the longer this type of fiasco is allowed to occur the more the players with promising futures like Branthwaite will see us as stepping stones to CL regulars.
Some sides with dodgy lines of finance can suffer and absorb these losses, the ten point deduction is a premier league first, and we've been lumbered with it.
What a legacy.

I think Coleman and Harrison will be here but I would add Lonerghan and Gana to your list of goners. We need to find some kids who are going to tear it up …. And then flog them
