Goodison, here I come

Going to the Man United match, arriving Friday evening and heading back on Monday. I am veeery excited. I've been once before, but myself and the girlfriend just wandered about aimlessly and stumbled upon things. Any advice for this time around? We like to eat, so if you could point me in the direction of some nice pubs and restaurants, that would be great.

When you arrive in Speke try The Legion, The Millhouse and The Orient, then once you're relaxed, drop your bags into your hotel and head straight to The Lisbon.

This is the best gif response I've seen I reckon. Crying here.

Based on my limited experience, pre-game I liked the Ship and Mitre just north of Liverpool 1 (downtown-ish), and the buses (#20 and the 619...I think) to Goodison are about 2 blocks away, as is the train. Great beer selection; decent food, though food takes waaaaaaay too long on game days, so best just go for beers. Once at Goodison, I liked the will-be-very-crowded Royal Oak. Others would know probably more and/or better recommendations.

Other great bars/pubs I liked: Pen Factory (modern "open feel", decent food here), Baltic State, Caledonia, Grapes Pubmaster (good Laotian food here as well), Thomas Rigby's, Fly in the Loaf, Berry & Rye (expensive, cocktails only), Hole in the Wall, Belvidere (great gin).

Foodwise, I loved "Seoul Love" on Bold street. It's Korean food and has mostly a Korean student clientele. I liked Tribeca Pizza better than American Pizza slice; Yard Bird was good; I loved "Real Taste" a no frills kebabs and other Turkish food place on London road; The Monro (Duke St.) was good food. Uni was good Indian food (at least to me, but I'm a Yank, so I don't get to eat it as often as you Brits do). That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Google/Trip advisor all these recs to see if they are something you'd like.
