Summed up the 1970's for me Gordon,so close and yet so far away. Not everyones cup of tea -
Some great (and not so great) memories for me!
Just said on Everton Show
To Sir Phil Carter when he was manager.
"gunna play some young lads including Graeme Sharp, might not be best for me but best for Everton " - fair doos Mr Lee!
Another manager that fell at the final fence in the race for a trophy
The 70's were actually pretty successful for Everton...just not when you compare it with the 60's and 80's and the Devil's club of the 70's. Toffs would have bit your hand off for those league finishes in the 90's and early Oughts.
he had a decent side, unfortunately, Clough chipped up, and Liverpool bought players like Souness, Hanson and KK.
Pretty much every player who played for him hold him in great esteem.
But , in hindsight, he had a decent side, unfortunately, Clough chipped up, and Liverpool bought players like Souness, Hanson and KK.
Dont know Khal losing the league cup when we were the better side, robbed of a fa cup final,3rd place,4th place after great runs put together a run of 18 matches with 2 loses and a 19 match run not a bad record all things consideredTo be fair, it was also his first fence....
We finished a lot lower than third, though, most of the time...
They wernt mate. We won jack, after winning the league at the end of the 60s.
We were a good side, by and large, mind.
