At the end of the day you'd get the same results from doing a HIIT session using giant sets and 1 rep max moves by closely monitoring your load.

I like DUP training myself, basic moves and steadily increasing the volume to increase mass, and you won't pay for the pleasure.

Suspect your right, but I'm paying mostly for the social aspect to workout alongside like minded people, and to push myself harder than I probably would if I were alone. I've basically got a home gym in my garage, and whilst I still use it, it is a bit isolating.

Lined up for my first 100 miler this last Saturday.
Eventually got to 84 miles but DNF'ed at that point.

Still, great day out. Learnt a lot.
I suspect that I'll try again at some point. I don't think the jump from running marathons to 50-100 miles ultras is as big as people imagine.

5.5 months into the episode of the sprained ankle. At least am out cycling now and have had green light for the elliptical thing, so moving forward, but hugely frustrating.

Anyone got a good 3 day split ? Been away for a year so getting back into it, had a PT session last night and felt great, just can't justify the price of the sessions, so will have to go it alone ! Looking to lose weight really, going to hit a spinning class aswell once a week.

I'll be doing a bit of touring this summer on my carbon road bike (carbon seat post). I've heard that 10-15L saddle bags can potentially cause problems. Anyone had experience touring on a carbon bike? Any recommendations?

What sort of problems mate? I've ridden carbon mountain bikes up hill and down dale (including some hairy-arsed descents), but carbon frame and wheels. Not used carbon controls like seatposts or handlebars.
If you're worried about the bag straps scoring the post over time, then I could see that might be an issue, depending on the design, but I would have thought some helicopter tape on the post would sort that out.

Cracking the post and/or frame due to the weight and location of the bag. Some brands specifically mention unsutable for carbon seat posts.

Prob depends on the orientation of the bag - if it's old style, perpendicular to the bike then I'd have no worries. Just adding ca. 10 kg of weight to you, basically. If it's within the plane of the bike, jutting out over the back wheel, then obv there's more of a leverage against the post. You could prob get a decent Al post on ebay for 20 quid for peace of mind?

Got a decent time trial result last night - been after a sub 24min for 10 miles all year, but getting nowhere near, consistently doing 24.45s almost to the second. Mate took a photo of me when he was marshalling and my position looked really cramped, so I went back to the drawing board with a bike fitting session, went out and did 23.30 that night.
24 min for ten miles is an average speed of 25mph - this is nowt for a proper tester, but it's a good benchmark level for club cycling, so pretty pleased.
