I've defended his right to be not written out of the greatest period of the club's history.

But that's where his involvement in the club ends.

I dont think, looking at this thread, I'm going against the grain on that either.

He's revered for his performances for Everton in the 80s, rightly so; but he's not welcome by the vast majority of Evertonians as part of our present or future.

Sorry if that offends, but it happens to be the truth.
I heard what he said at the time and thought it was out of order but when I think of him now my first thoughts are the 1st goal in the 84 cup final and a wonder goal at the pit. He'd have had to have done something really bad to me personally for me to change my opinion of him.

That's why I stated above earlier that this piece in the Scotsman was aimed at a rehabilitation - and I expect more to come from other sources. And people will soften to Sharp again, no question.

But I'm of the view that his actions at Everton (and not just the headlock lie) as ambassador/director were arrogant and dismissive of concerned Evertonians. He pissed off an awful lot of people before Headlockgate when he defended Kenwright's tenure and poured scorn on protests against our decline. As a football legend of this club he should have been furious with us that our club had lost so much ground. But he wasn't, he was more concerned with cynically keeping a job and role at the club and he was an attack dog when need be against those who were desperate to get us back where we belong.

He's part of our glorious past IMO, and that's where he'll remain - firmly in the rear view mirror.

The opinions of ‘one man and his dog’ and all that.

He should come back, get a nice polite clap, probably a couple of boo’s and just accept that he’s tarnished his standing with the fans.

But he should come back… he’s more to most than a horrific boardroom member. But he needs to keep his trap shut and not do more interviews

At this moment in time - if it happened tomorrow - he'd get a very mixed reception.

But I expect that to tilt in his favour over the next few months to a point where he'll get a good reception from most Everton fans in Goodison.

The big sell on his rehabilitation is under way. Last night on the Radio Merseyside phone in there was a caller saying he'd made matters worse with that Scotsman interview, but the Everton expert on the panel said she'd welcome him back. We''ll see a lot more of this.

If it's to hand him a respectable send off (one he deserves as a player but doesn't as a director) then ok, fair enough. But that has to be it, surely? He cant get a job at the club or local media as a man who can offer Everton's face to the world.

He forfeited all that when he threw his hand in with Kenwright - an association that led him to direct confrontation with fans sickened by the board's actions.

It's not a matter of forgive and forget either. Sharp needs to stay what he is: a head on a pike for all other Everton playing staff who are promoted to a club position to look at and remind them where real power lies at this club.

I agree but he either needs to get a better PR person on board or replace whoever is advising him.
He’s getting boring now, and all this woe is me stuff is simply digging himself a deeper hole.
He should pipe down about whats gone on as he’s not going to change anyone’s mind about it, stick to talking about football, his career and being a bit more contrite toward the fans and he’ll be able to come and go to the match as much as he wants.

na he’s done

This is all holy than thou and very unseemly. People get far too emotional and puritanical about these sorts of things. Maybe he was just doing what he thought was best for his family. Being sanctimonious doesn’t pay the bills and his actions would make absolutely no difference to the outcome so I don’t blame him for taking the money in anyway. People need to grew up and stop acting like a bunch of school kids whose feelings got hurt.
Oh whatever Sharpy or his supporters thinks is no fly off my back. He was happy to live the cosy life being a Kenwright lackey, whilst that very regime nearly got the club relegated with points deductions etc.

Relegation in our perilous financial state would've had disastrous consequences. I hold no ill will towards the man.

He was a legend of a player, but he decided to be a Kenwright yes man and sold the welfare of the club and the feelings of the fans down the river for the Kenwright cash.

He says he apparently no longer supports the club, well that's his own decision. I see no reason for any of us to go kissing his arse pleading with him to come back, when he hasn't even apologised for his lies and still very much seems to insist that they are true.
