Greatest Gigs

You’re probably right, the Empire, so long ago! Saw them again at New Brighton pavilion about 2001 I think, like a cabaret band!
Supercharge were brilliant, Albie Donnelly was ace! Ahead of his time.
Supercharge were great that night, Albie Donnelly’s antics were quite an education to my 16 yr old self

Supercharges she moved the dishes first is one of the funniest songs I have ever heard.
Saw Supercharge loads. They used to play regularly in the back room of the Dove and Olive in Speke. Was great to see them on the big stage. Albie was great as you say.. Great sax player too.

Like most on here, seen some massive bands at massive arenas, but also some ace bands at the smaller local venues that we all knew from the tour T Shirts! Every tour seemed to end at The Hammersmith Odeon back then. "No sleep till Hammersmith" kinda underlines that.

But back in the day, Bristol had a smallish venue called The Locarno Ballroom. (Near the ice rink for those that know the city). It had very few seats, obvs, and was just the best place to see bands. In no particular order, saw The Damned, SLF, The Cult, The Stranglers, Stray Cats, probs others I have forgotten.

And the place would be bouncing, literally, the structure actually moving. Great days.

RATM Leeds festival 2008
The Stranglers -Suite 13 tour in 05/06
Metallica - men 2008
The Enemy - 2006
Slipknot at the hydro (sound was unreal)in 2020
Stone Roses at the Etihad in 2016 was special. I was about 3 when they played at Spike Island and lived in West Bank of Widnes and have small memories of just loads of people bern down there. Vaguely remember a helicopter of a night time too. So to see them all them years later was special. Got to watch Public Enemy before and been a huge fan was great.

Hard to pick one.

I saw the Manics when they played the Royal Court here in Liverpool back in 2006 or so.
They were still a big stadium band back then, but were playing a load of smaller venues they used to frequent in their early days, something to do with the 10 year anniversary of Richey Edwards going missing.
They played for nearly 4 hours, not including the support band 'Delays' who were fantastic as well.
They were by far the loudest band I have ever seen (and I've seen Motorhead on several occasions)

I saw Pendulum when they first started doing the Pendulumlive shows just before their 'In Silico' album dropped. Way up there for the pure energy alone. It was absolute madness

The Chemical Brothers at Creamfields back in 2005 was something else altogether. If you are familiar with their live shows, you'll know all about the pure visual spectacle of it all. On top of that, this was when the festival was still being held at the old Speke airport, next to the then newer Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
So you had these planes coming in to land, swooping low over the field and over the main stage.
It was night time, the light/visual show was in full swing, they were belting out the hits, I was off my face, having a good time, then passenger planes with their lights on started swooping in extremely low overhead as they were going in to land. You could feel the downdraft from them as they went overhead.
Whole thing was the most amazingly surreal gig I ever went to.

Off to Glastonbury on Weds, so hopefully some more to add next week :D

I was at that Chemical Brothers gig, it was boiling hot if I remember rightly.

Saw Faithless and the Prodigy at Creamfields too.

Faithless put on a show, but it wasn’t the right sort of place for the Prodigy.
