Green light for the Super League?

I mean it couldn’t be any simpler could it.

The Super League would be a 20 team league. The Premier League is a 20 team league. That’s 76 fixtures when you add the two together. That’s not really hard to understand is it?

The Champions League is a 32 team league next season. They will all still be playing in their respective domestic leagues.

If they really wanted to gain traction you have to offer yearly qualification based on merit, but that doesn't particularly appeal to some as they want the guaranteed participation and associated monies. Yearly merit qualification also negates the the whole promotion/relegation aspect.

It seems as though that they are attempting to appeal to the masses with a facade of relegation/promotion but anyone with any sense can see straight through it.

Ok let's say you're 777 and just bought Everton. Then you're approached by a company saying you can play in the "Blue" league despite not qualifying, because you're a pretty big name. You get a guaranteed 14 extra matches plus TV money and if you make the final you go up to the next league. Providing you don't do exceptionally badly you can do this every year. What do you think they would say?

I’d hope that they’d look at the bigger picture, and realise that agreeing to a bit of guaranteed income would also result in far more guaranteed income for our competitors and a devaluation of the PL.

We are in a mess right now. But why would the likes of Villa agree to this? Would Newcastle agree to this if they aren’t put into the top tier?

We will see what happens, but I do think the opposition to this failed idea is considerably greater than those that support it.

It can’t work alongside the PL. Any of the clubs who get put into it (most likely the scab 6) will go into the top 2 divisions. So never at risk of being completely out of it.

Their revenue from it will grow exponentially due to the targeting of the Middle East/Asian markets, signified by the planned kick off times.

That increase in revenue makes it very clear that there is not a level playing field in relation to FFP/P&S.

So either FFP is scrapped and it becomes a free for all and owners can spend what they like. Or, it just doesn’t work.

Makes the PL pointless. Outside of being champion there is nothing to play for. Also makes it far less competitive top to bottom
