Groucho's Fact Hunt

This is the largest black hole that we have discovered so far. It has 18 billion solar masses (or the mass of 18 billion suns) and its event horizon (the bit that swallows up everything that comes into contact with it) is 131.6 billion miles in diameter. The solar system has been placed in the middle for comparison. This thing is pretty damn big.

Do you think that the other side is a 'big bang' event?

It's an interesting thought, all of that matter that a black hole gobbles up has to go somewhere. Are you suggesting a big bang lies dormant on the other side of a black hole until enough matter has been munched to trigger it? What happens to the black hole once the big bang has gone off?

I quite like the idea of a white hole, which (as any Red Dwarf fan will know) is the polar opposite and spews out everything a black hole has munched back into space.

In other words, we only exist because our previous universe was eaten by a black hole...?
