Guardian article from an Evertonian on Moyes & the derby

Post of the week mate. Spot on summary of my feelings too.

As for Sunderland and a win squaring things: no chance. The only thing that will erase this almighty fcuk up and surrender is lifting the cup in May...QF and SF wins isn't justification for his cowardice against that lot.

Exactly....

I'm in no way saying that Moyes was right for the team he put out or belittling the derby in anyway - that result hurt like [Poor language removed] the other night & the fact the game was there the taking pisses me off.

From a fans point of view Moyes made the wrong decision but from his point of view the cups our best chance of a successful season, yeah we could have went above the sh*te with a win - but. What do we achieve by finishing 6th or 7th rather than 9th\10th? That team selection went against everything he's stood for over the past 10 years - I think he made less changes to the side for the Carling Cup - but the Derby's 3 points dropped..we've come away from it hurting & with a confidence knock but we've also had no injuries, suspensions & key players have had a chance to rest.. This may well be short term pain for long term gain

Its a big gamble & if we lose or even draw to Sunderland then Moyes will have to answer for both results, however if our names in the hat for the cup semi's on Sunday then it will have been a gamble that's paid off?

500k extra for league placement. We dont have a pot to piss in.

Not to mention he wasted a lot of our fans money who bothered to turn up.

what i dont get though, someone mentioned in another thread about this, if he wanted to rest players (ridiculous) why didnt he put some of the young pretenders in there? Barkley Duffy Guaye etc? they at least would have had some run in them

Yeah I agree with that.

This.

You can bet your left bollock those lads (and others) would've run themselves into the ground for 90 minutes.

Yeah but what do you remember more about the 80's the fact we lost to them 5-0 or the FA Cup win, Cup Winners Cup, League wins & numerous trips to Wembley?

Obviously our successes, but that's not what you said. You said nobody will remember this in couple of years. History proves otherwise.

I think he calmly sat down and thought it through days, maybe over a week in advance, because it's not like we picked up knocks against Spurs that would have made him reshuffle plans.

So he's prioritised and thought that Spurs at home is winnable with all hands on deck, and that Liverpool is a tougher game (for him it most definitley is) so we'll have a breather and effectively tank that one, and then on Saturday we play all our best team again and hope we picked up no knocks against Liverpool.

That had to be the schedule.

I agree with Dave again, and that other guy (bflefc? - sorry, couldn't ne bothered to quote your post). Moyes clearly chose to play strong/weak/strong and I would imagine we'll see changes possibly for Arsenal to complete the cycle. For any other team playing them, or any other oppo that would be fine. Just not against them.

Fair point, however they beat us 3-0 at Goodison in about 2000 or 2001 & its never mentioned

No, but how often to we talk about the AJ Derby? You think they won't talk about the 'Gerrard' Derby for years to come?

Assuming Moyes has prioritised Spurs/Sland over Lbrpl, then I can understand ppls views that the players weren't putting in the effort. After all if Moyes has done so, I can see that either he might have built his team up the same way, or it would have just rubbed off on them aswell that the priority was to make sure everyone was fit and ready for Sat.

Is right.

Beating Sunderland at home in no way makes up for that mess on Tuesday. Maybe some will be pacified by 2.30pm on Saturday with a return to Wembley for a SF, but if that team gets KO'd from that point on this Derby result will hang around his neck until he leaves. I cant stress enough the enormity of that surrender to Liverpool.

Still not accepting the point that a prioritisation needed to take place. If Moyes thought playing one more game than another mid-table team four days before we had to face them was going to be a crucial factor in beating them then that tells you all you need to know about the manager we have and his ultra cautious mindset.

In my eyes Sunderland was & this is the more important game. If we lose on Sat I will probs feel more down than I do now & that's regardless of the **** up the other night.

Just out of interest how would you be feel if we would have played a full strength side against the sh*te & were now going into the Sunderland game with two important players suspended & some players carrying knocks (not two dissimilar to the situation our opponents find themselves in going into the game - would be good to see how confident there fans are at the minute)?

The derby was a **** up - I think it might be best to put it behind us - We've got a MASSIVE game on Sat & a great opportunity to get to Wembley & make something out of this woeful season!

You simply cant think like that though regarding injuries and suspensions. You cant go into every game fearing the worst. If it was the cup final this weekend and there was nothing to play for at all in the league then yeah maybe. But that wasnt the case.

I agree Sunderland is the more important game but lets get one thing straight here, the derby was a massive game too. A chance to go above them, a better chance then ever to finally beat them at their ground and a chance to push on for the top 6. Also the morale boost they will have received from that win compared to how they would be right now if we beat them is massive. Lets not forget they are in the cup too still and one of our main threats. Destabilizing them at the same time was a missed opportunity.

All this analistic crap really makes me wanna puke! Moyes fkd us over, nailed on!

Football is for the fans, not managers egos or ethos. The fans attend the games. The fans pay the wages. The fans sing the songs. It's the fans that hate wibberpool and hav put up with their crap for so long. The fans, is what its about.
Every single Evertonian on the planet wanted to beat the poo. We don't give a toss that there is an FA Cup qf a few days later. The fans wanted a win and he let us down. He's not from round 'ere, he wasn't born a blue. He obviously doesn't understand.
.
Just when he was winning back (including me) some disgruntled fans, he pulls a stunt like this (the derby).

A few of my opinions about the great DM.

1. He's never won a derby at Analfield. Would you not want this to end?.

2.There was a massive opportunity to go above them in the league with only ten games to go. He chose not to take it. a win at Analfeild would have had Sunderland quakin' in their clogs. The boys would have been like ravaging Lions on Saturday.

3.He's never won an FA cup. What makes anyone believe this year will be any different with the quality of teams left in it?. He's desperate to win something before he fuxoff

4. He's been quoted as saying a top ten finish is a successful season. Ferfuxsake!!!

5. A happy mediocre manager with a pension and a gold watch looming.

6. There won't be a hole deep enough for him to crawl into if we go out against Sunderland.

7. It'll be all about "I told you so" if we win.

*I'm not a happy lad just now.
